Blow Off Valve Info

Hey all!

Just after abit of help/info/tip please.

I've bought a new blow off valve and was told that it'll fit(bolt directly onto my intercooler) on my 2000 GT-B. But when I tried fitting the BOV it wouldn't fit. It would fit if the intercooler was lifted or rather tilted slightly about 6-10mm, the holes would align.

I'll take pictures of it tomorrow but here is an exact one on trademe.

Any suggestions? Or is there an adaptor/flange that I can get or purchase?

They do a adaptor to suit but pretty pricey unless you can get a cheap option from tardme. I cant remember who does them racepro?

Buy a GFB one. Those cheap pieces of crap are more trouble than they're worth.

When i had my gtb i just got a adaptor made. 10mm plate cut to suit and got a bend welded on. Cost all of a 24 pack.

now those are the deals I need to look out for lol. But if I were to pay cizash for bits and peices of work like that how much am i most likely to pay now days??

I had a turbosmart though which slide over the 32mm alloy tube. Yours is a direct bolt on which is abit harder to get customised. Im sure youll think of something. Talk to any engineering firm they might be happy to fab something.

Or take it back to where you got say it doesnt fit and it was sold as a direct bolt on which it isnt. Get your money back and buy a real bolt on GFB specific to your car.

Anyhoo, I've decided to take it in on Monday and see what the mechanics can do and what the price would be. Will update when I get this done and see what they have to say, might be useful in the future...

i had a fake hks bov was a peice of crap,cost 80 for it 2 be fitted 2 my car, leaked like hell, swaped ot in the end, but a genuine mate, even if its a cheaper real branded 1,my racepro is sweet as

Update.

Well its the adaptor that's the cheapest option but I have since looked at getting an external wastegate with a dump pipe. Heard the neighbors mate's GT-B and it sounded mean but looked standard as..

Didn't express my idea to the mechanics though. ;D

Any ideas/thoughts/opinion on this?

If you put an external with a screamer on youll fail your next wof or get pink stickered at the next roadside check. Always plumb your externals back in people. They work better.

Clairfy this please? im not arguging just want to know why lol, my legacy seemed to go a tiny bit better with it plumbed in, but i thought this was because you didnt have a ear pearcing noise to take your attention off the acclateration lol

I just said that cos screamers make your car look gay. I have no proof otherwise

If i put my car back to stock looking you wouldnt know it had what it has. You can only just hear the external if im boosting it past you and your listening for it. Is finely quiet. It used to come on boost and tear your head off it was that loud.

Probably doesnt matter, its the angle its mounted on that matters. As long as its inline and not like 90deg like mine used to be. Used to break the weld on the headers until i did the twist and put it up beside the turbo.

it's called an exhaust leak, simple as that

Common knowledge and if i looked its in the ltsa handbook. It is legal if you direct out the back though. But then its a noise issue

what if you vent it out the side of the front bumper? and no Im not going to do this but have seen it done

My mates Evo had that and i think it failed a wof on it. I dont think exhaust can exit anywhere in front of the cabin to be honest.

Now I know all cars with a screamer are illegal.

If it has been plumbed back would the screamer or dumpy noise still be there?

The noise will be there just nowhere near as loud and would reverb from the muffler instead depending on your setup.
