rev cut at 4k rpm no speedo

so i replaced gearbox and i have no speedo and it rev cuts at 4000rpm everthings hooked up although the speedo cable clip is so damn hard to get on cud this be causing the issue

I have heard that is an issue with mech speedo on early stuff. No CEL?

yup havent had time check which cell though. at 1st after initially putting box in and starting it up it all worked fine till i went for as drive as bd gave it abita beans. then thus morn i cleared cell and pushed cable in abit more . cel disapeared and so did rev cut but speedo wasnt working still

A similar thing happened to my car at an event causing me to retire. Was a combination of wonky knock sensor and busted speed sensor. This was on a V4 though.

It plugs into the gearbox and has a little spinning paddle thing right? Not sure how they differ between the earlier and later models, although it was my understanding that all the gearbox cases for 5 speeds were more or less the same - 8 bolt vs 4 bolt notwithstanding.

Correct. Sensors are interchangeable Im running V3/4 STI with late electronic sensor.

or the cable has slipped out at the midway join.

she will be in limp mode until thats fixed dude...

i think it slipped out cause clip wasnt in properly but have sorted that i think clip off and put it in gearbox end and rejoined it and it clicked in and wont pull out reset it and waiting to take it for burn at smoko

well it didnt fix it and theres a horrible grinding sound when the CEL comes on CEL is showing 33 which is vehicle speed sensor which one is this? is it where the speedo cable goes into?

the speedo cable connects to the dash and spins the speedo . this then generates a 4 pulse electric signal to the ecu

ive tried spinning that spindle on inside of cable on gearbox end it wont budge and the cable seems fine im goin to check cluster next

well its not at dash cluster end i checked and reset ecu. when the speedo stopped working there was a popping sound and a light humming sound im guessing its the gearbox end thats cooked
