Turbo swap help - This saturday

Recommended Posts

Is anyone with experience available to help myself and MercuryFree swap the VF30 in my V7 for another (less broken) VF30?

We shall be doing this on Saturday (16/11) at MercuryFree\'s pad in Whitby, I can provide food and beverages and my eternal gratitude for allowing me to drive my car again!

Thanks in Advance

I would volunteer but I\'ve got to get my rubbish V7 back on the road too :(

Fairly easy job, as long as the downpipe has been off before. Pro tip would be to soak all the bolts around the heatshields with CRC for a while beforehand if it hasn\'t been removed recently - you\'ll probably still end up snapping a few.

Studs in the turbine housing can be a bastard, they\'re (edited) M10x1.25 off the top of my head, might pay to pick up a couple of spares from your local Pitstop or whatever to save you from some grief if you snap any off. Get some brass nuts while you\'re there.

Be really careful with the intake pipe, it\'s easy to mush/split the factory one when it\'s old.

You\'ll need a breaker bar (or a big half inch ratchet), 2 long extensions and a swivel joint to get the bottom stud on the downpipe. The others you can get from the top. Take the downpipe completely off, if you try to add/remove turbos with it still sitting there it\'s a pain in the arse.

Does anyone know the specific bolt sizes I need to keep spare in case we do shear something? I would like to grab them before the weekend to avoid any delays

Heatshield is all 10mm and you will break a bunch, stupid little studs embedded in the headshield, if they break, oh well, do without.

The uppipe and downpipe are all 14mm nuts/bolts/studs.

The studs are M10x1.25. The downpipe uses 3 studs and 2 bolt/nuts off the top of my head. Uppipe is all studs. There\'s only 3 you need to remove, the other 2 are the brackets that hold the uppipe to the head and block

So just as an update if anyone is interested:

After day 1 ::) , the turbo is finally out after wrestling with multiple heat shields with bolts hidden in inaccessible locations and an oil drain line that was impossible to reach.

we managed to not shear any bolts, however a few nuts were rounded off.

I think we found the source of the rattling noise, one of the down pipe studs was missing all of its thread and had no nut, the gasket in that area of the flange showed signs of gas escape.

So day 2 will be installation of replacement turbo and with the lessons learned from day 1 it should go much smoother!

The rattling noise, I will bet 18 cents I found in my pocket that the uppipe heatshield weld has cracked.

this

Ill take my $0.36 at the next meet ;D ,

We didn\'t touch the up-pipe heat shield but replacing the turbo with one without the stripped stud and replacing the bolt in the pitch stopper has cured the noise and made the car 100% smoother in operation!

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
