has anyone done a engine / single turbo conversion?

So, I\'m seriously looking at doing a engine / turbo conversion on my 2001 BE5 legacy. I\'m not \'sick\' of the twin turbo setup its just I will eventually end up wanting to get a bit more from this car and I don\'t particularly like the VOD....

So long story short, I want to put in either a V7 STI engine (I\'m actually open to suggestions if someone has done this before and netted better results) coupled with a link G4+ storm ECU (I will likely use this ECU, but open to suggestions).

OR Rebuild my current engine from the bottom up, go the whole hog, new pistons rods bearings, single turbo etc etc

I do need advice, as this will be my first engine rebuild without my dad (unfortunately passed away not long ago so I can\'t go running back to him for information / help when I screw something up ), so please any information would be greatly appreciated

talk to marky about things that you can do to limit VOD and things to improve the twin system, saves some money and it mite perform the way you want it to before sinking alot of money into it

Yeah I was thinking of doing this, but a engine rebuild is likely in order as the engine makes a knock under light load in first and very subtle in 2nd. So a pull down is needed so might aswell go the whole hog tbh.

You will save some time and effort going with a rebuilt engine vs a sti swap.

I would do the single turbo conversion plus the rebuild. It will be a nice combo with that ecu

Okay, so would you by chance recommend anyone? I\'m unsure as of who to go with.

I was given a rough quote for a v7 STI rebuilt and forged closed longblock of approx 5k. But thats a bare block. admittedly a bloody strong one but yeah haha

Never had any issues myself along with half of CS and yip prices are bloody good.

Correction, once all the work is done to it can\'t say \'I\'m\' Because well I wont have done all the work myself

i did a V7 sti conversion on my subaru B4 legacy 1999, boosted performance in Howick did all the work, the car was a beast after the conversion! i used the standard v7 computer and harness though to run the setup...

How much did that cost you by chance?

the engine and stuff cost me 6.5K, the wiring and stuff by boosted performance cost me around 2k for them to run the wiring and get it running properly so it did end up costing a bit but i thought it was worth it at the time lol...

car did a 13 flat on 18inch chromes with full interior and standard boost after the conversion on its first run!
