Chasing a new water leak after coolant change/flush

Cheers again Koom, had some No8 and a few steel rods ready to go for this avo ;)

Rod through from the front, pressing rear Gudgeon Pin:

The damaged Piston\'s Gudgeon or Piston Pin, half out:

Gudgeon Pin removed, Piston and Connecting Rod now separated:

Pushing the Dead Piston out with a Screw Driver:

Damaged Piston removed:

Looking down the Cylinder Bore:

Thought this might make an interesting photo. All parts removed so far, cleaned and laid out (had to get on the roof):

Exploded_Engine_001.jpg

Then I did some Kitchen Redecorating. Might find the right Woman one day ;D

motor_in_kitchen_003.jpg

These are the parts I need to put it back together, 2 Exhaust Valves and a Piston, or maybe just a complete replacement Head and a Piston:

All because I connected the Battery to wind the Windows up in the rain. Turned the ignition one click too far (with Cam Belt off) engaging the Starter. When I got up the next morning, I\'d still only put the Drivers window up, the Passengers was still wide open, seat and carpet soaked ::) I\'d only nosed it into the shed to adjust the ride height, then saw the water leak, then Killed it ::) Bugger

If the previous owner (a CS member, whom hasn\'t identified himself) hadn\'t lied on trademe and said the Cam Belt had been replaced. I would have done it myself 14,000km ago and none of this would have happened. Cheers MATE.

Name and shame time.

you know there is a WAY simpler way to remove the piston after the gudgeon pin is out eh.. rotate the crank so it pushes that piston to the top of the bore and the rod (disconnected) to the bottom, then with hands or otherwise, twist the piston 90 degrees down the bore....

now the rod wont insert into the piston as the hole /slot is 90 degrees offset...

rotate the crank again and the rod will push the piston out the top :)

youl want a piston, and a new head tbh, given its age etc, you are almost in rings and bearings land too..

which looks more like a full rebuild :(

I pushed it out most of the way with my finger, then the last 20mm with the screw driver, but I\'ll remember that for next time funktown ;)

I brought the car off Terry Hodges from Richmond, Trademe name captaintnh. I\'ve always wondered why he hasn\'t identified himself on here, even to say "Hey, that\'s my old car". No surprises why now, serves me right for being too trusting and not going through the envelope of receipts he handed me.

Copied from Sellers Trademe advert: Terry Hodgeson

These are the things I have done to it:

-New Clutch

-New Air Flow Meter

-New Knock Sensor

-New Iridium Spark Plugs

-New Tappet Cover Seals

-New Rear Exhaust

-New Panel Filter

-New Air conditioning Pump Bearings and newly re-gassed

-New Starter Motor

-New Radiator

-New Cambelt

-New Inner CV Boot

-1x Can of Subaru Upper Engine Cleaner put through

-New Castrol Edge 5W30 Oil and filter

-New WOF and REG at VTNZ

-New gear stick bushings

-Potenza RE001’s on the front

These are the modifications it has:

-STI Pedals

-Apexi Boost Gauge and Strut Brace

-HKS SSQV Blow off valve

-Fully adjustable Cusco Suspension – (Certified)

-WRX 4 pot calipers on the front and rotors

-New Sard Vacuum hoses

-5 Star Mongoose Alarm

-18 inch Mags

-Turbotimer

Edit: He also failed to mention that he had removed every single speaker in the car...

Yeah, by the time I buy:

New Cam Belt Kit

New Head Gaskets

Head

Piston

New fluids etc

I\'ll be near or over $1000 so may as well just get another engine, or just upgrade it :-\ Favouring the last option ;)

Grab a V7 sti short off fbssub1 he has most thing and can probably sort you out with the valves as well.

Sweet, thanks. Maybe with the state of my bad Valve Seat and age of my Heads/Cams etc I may as well go fully recon heads too. Then at that cost, may as well just get a low km full V7 STI engine/loom/ecu??? and go the whole hog. So maybe it\'s Single Turbo time? Trucks going well so there\'s no rush really, miss driving it already though...

Edit: I\'d still love to put my new VOD/Rev B ECU on the DYNO

Yeah maybe single turbo time and just think of your eliminated VOD as good work and a trick for another TT

Cheers Roo, not really a holiday just working as little as possible :) Paying for it now though, I need a new engine lol.

Mate.. sorry about the bad luck, but good to see your making good of a bad situation. I vote V7 STI re-power. Hell why not go 6 speed while your in there ;D

Cheers tebbyj, re-power\'s winning through and through. The 6 speed might be a while away though ;D

Listen to the above, dont faff about with the tt stuff since motor is out

Cheap option is just whatever long block is available, and just a single turbo mani and td05 or whatever and away you go, the ecu side of it is simple

Doesnt have to be big bucks with all the fancy gear, just get the basics in place, plenty of folks have junkyards of factory bits in their sheds here to help out

Edit, dont listen to roo, he\'ll give you silly ideas and have you putting an ej18 in it next

Also sr20 time

;D

Thanks Marky, I\'m sold now 8) I\'m doing a Single Turbo Conversion ;D

I have my stock v3/4 extractors/uppipe etc in the shed you can have it for the price of postage?

Wicked Sh*t, thanks Roo. Appreciate the offer, but.. I\'d hate to accept them, then not use them :-\ I don\'t know if they\'ll fit my plan yet?

If I\'m doing it, I will do it well ;D Starting with this as a base to work from 8)

That V7 STI engine above in the TM Link come out of a CS members crashed STI GDB Sedan.

The seller brought the car cheap and stripped at all down for a profit,

I checked it out after the crash and it wouldn\'t start.. I\'d be getting it compression tested or something along those lines to make sure its in working order.

Just a heads up - Cheers

Thanks B-MAGIC, could just be a split fuel line/electrical fault etc from the crash. But yeah, would want to check it over prior if I go that way.

I\'ve PM\'d ffssub1 about a V7 STI Short Block. ;D Thanks evowrx, brilliant.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
