Cambelt Related Question 2004 WRX STI

Hey guys,

Kind of a random question that I might already have answered myself, but just thought I would get some other opinions.

I have a 2004 Subaru WRX STI, now its only done 71,000km\'s from new, and it doesn\'t appear to have had the cambelt done. I\'ve always been under the impression that normally you just change it at 100,000kms and your away laughing, but recently I\'ve been told there is a age limit. First call I made was to Subaru and they told be 100,000km\'s or 3 years which ever comes first, so if that\'s the case it\'s well over due.

Then I remembered I have a workshop manual, and it states 165,000km or 8 years which ever comes first. Which still makes it slightly over-due as its a 10 year old car now. Just wanting a bit more input as I was intending on selling it all going to plan. But do you guys think I should do the cambelt for piece of mind I get trade pricing on Subaru stuff so the cost won\'t be to expensive.

usually there is an age limit.. but three years is rubbish!

2004 brings it up about ten years, so i would start considering your 100km service.. remember its much more than just a \'cambelt bro\'

if you\'re selling it you could potentially not do it now, but then you have peace of mind and can exhibit your \'looking after it\' if you do sell it with it done..

Cheers Funky, pretty much all the other 100,000km stuff has been done when I brought it, changed all gearbox oils, complete coolant flush and changed plugs, fuel filter, new brake and clutch fluid etc. Had a really good go over when I brought it at 65,000km\'s.

Yeah I might just bite the bullet and do it, can do the work myself and with trade prices on parts would only be about 600-800 bucks. Just interested on what peoples thoughts were.

so you\'ve done the water pump, and cambelt idlers etc???

Sorry mate, probably confused the situation a bit. Haven\'t done any cambelt related stuff yet that\'s what I was asking about. Cheers.

if your doing the cambelt you mite as well do everything while you r in there eg cam/crank seals water pump etc

Yeah no point doing it half arsed, can get a complete cambelt kit belt, tensioner, idlers etc and seal kit for under $600 trade price. And will do all the drive belts while I have them all off.

most things I have read on the wrx/sti say 100kms or 10years, whichever comes sooner
