legacyrs91

Recommended Posts

I have a 91 rs legacy with 112thousand kms on clock.its standards as it just has a mandrel bent exhaust straight from the turbo and a pod filter and bov...

just wanted to know some reccomendations on some reasonably cheap upgrades...etc

like I was looking at getting a td05 turbo for it?

any thoughts

Stick with the VF8 and just put a little more boost into it

Get rid of the pod filter or at the least make a box around it and turn it into a cold air intake.

If you put a TD05 in it you will need to spend $ on an aftermarket boost controller.

Honestly mate an rs with a bit more boost is an awesome reliable car.

Wouldn\'t bother with the td05. I had one on mine when it was stock and they are so laggy its like 4-5k before you see any decent power. If you do go td05 the grey injectors max out right on boost cut so it\'s not really "safe" either. A tube-able ecu with yellows and a td05 or vf23/24/28 could be the best "bang for buck" mod. td05 are a good turbo though so you could try it? I\'ve had other say they\'re really good but when in there cars IMO not that great. An sti wipes the floor with them in reality. (I\'m talking a stock bc legacy here with ej20g engine and factory ecu)

MY PICKS

Upgrade to the wrx v1-2 intercooler with a straight inlet td04 and a modified intake. Freeing up the intake and exhaust is pretty beneficial. You could also cleanup the factory headers make sure there\'s no exhaust leaks. The up pipe can be changed to one without a flexi in it. The downpipe and exhaust to something without cats in it. An aftermarket electronic boost controller to run about 13-14 psi. There\'s a chipped ecu on TM for $60 at the moment. Or you could get a possum link/apexi power FC/link g1-4 if you want to spend some real $$ on the car.

Some might disagree with the td04 but they are a good wee turbo and have a nice low range punch for any normal road car. They keep up with the td05 as well I\'ve seen this in person. Td05 is bigger and better but the factory ecu will only give 1bar before cutting out anyway so real gains aren\'t seen from the td05 unless you can get an A/M ecu/injectors/intercooler/intake/exhaust.

I ran an otherwise stock RS with a chipped ecu and a VF10 on 98 octane running 15psi

Made 137kw atw

I ran the car like that for two seasons with no problems.

In fact, I won the Manfield R&T sprint series with the car in that configuration.

I got the exact same power from my gt with the exact same mods and it went great. Then I sold it and brought a Teh Type R and it also made 137 kw atw with headers and exhaust. Dam hondas

I miss the days when my RS had a VF10, chipped ecu and 3" exhaust and I just drove it all the time. Now it takes lots of money, heaps of my spare time and still is no where near being road legal anytime soon :(

V1/2 Intercooler would be a downgrade. Even with a larger scoop butchered into the bonnet.

Most likely the car will be running a VF8; which is slightly larger than a TD04 - boost threshold and lag would be negligible between them.

Best thing for these cars would be a proven chip upgrade with the only other modification needed would be an uprated fuel pump.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
