Importing a Car from Japan.

Hi Guys, so I’ll cut strait to the point. I’m looking into importing a car from Japan and I’ve done a small amount of research and stumbled across “www.japaneseusedcars.co.nz” “www.japaneseusedcars.com” What I’d like to know is:

• Has anyone dealt with this firm before?

• Does anyone have some feedback? Good, Bad?

• What are everyone’s general impressions on importing cars from japan?

• Anything else that you would like to warn me of.

getting bloody difficult to be honest has to be post 2005 i believe to pass all the emissions and frontal impact rules

I\'ve brought one in using those guys and they were very helpful and basically walked me through the process. Still luck of the draw with the car you purchase as they are just buying from auction on your behalf. Not sure what the exchange rate is like these days as my one arrived just as the global financial crash hit and I only just broke even as I had to sell it.

I\'d do it again through them but I think it is only worth it on higher value cars but then the risk is higher too.

Exchange rate is pretty good this morning, grade 4 or 5 w low k\'s etc. you should be fine

Saved around $6k when I bought my Legacy in but that was many years ago now

Hi Guys, Thanks for the fast responses.

My budget is around the 10-14K mark so I\'m still looking into what would be the best value for that money.

Also I’m trying to make my mind up weather I will import a good seller and try make some money off it or just a nice car for myself “Thinking id love a Legacy 3.0r Spec B Sedan” and then call it a day.

Koom it gives me confidence to hear from someone that has actually dealt with these guys before, approximately how long did it take from start to finish?

The exchange rate at this point does look promising.

I can\'t remember exactly how long it took but it was pretty quick once I\'d decided on a particular car for them to purchase for me (up to my specified price limit).

I think it was a couple of weeks from then til it was supposed to be shipped but it missed the boat so it sat on the wharf for another month before it left Japan. Then all the paperwork etc once it got here but that went through an import broker who was a friend of a friend. So not sure what that would be like if dealing with it yourself?

Also change the oil immediately but especially get rid of the fuel that\'s in it and put fresh fuel in. The stuff that was in the tank was stale as!
