Question on GFB Atomic Boost Controller

All V7's running VF turbos fall over in the top end. Peak torque (pull) is at about 4500rpm and peak HP probably around 6-6.5k

Any revs beyond that don't achieve anything. Set shift light to 6.5k, shift when it blinks.

Also 16psi will mean you're somewhat down on power, V7 standard is 18psi and most lightly modified ones will pull 20psi before tapering off.

Did you iron out all the funny little issues your car was having?

EDIT: I don't run a boost gauge and mine always pulls bloody well Ignorance is bliss.

Yea agree, all V7's on stock turbo setup drop off boost at high-end. Get a ecu reflash and you will be amazed at the result. Holds peak torque and power from mid range right through till red line. Boost still comes on at 3000, and it pulls amazing. Best thing I could recommend for any v7 is ecu reflash and run 18psi boost.

Thanks for the help, the cam sensor fault may have been a saved fault from a previous scan when i was having issues with cam advance (filter basket dropped out of banjo bolt), however on clearing the fault from the memory, further scans showed zero faults. If we are discussing ECU reflash, we would also be assuming a move back to ECU controlled boost solenoid correct?

Correct. The V7 ECU has relatively good boost control standard and VERY good boost control with a reflash. I don't know why you would run a tap on one of these, to be honest.

If you change over to a 3-port solenoid and tune to suit they have boost control on par with 99% of EBCs you will find.

The internal wastegate is completely fine up to the power level that these turbos run out of puff (probably 240wkw absolute tops)

With a proper boost solenoid they work absolutely fine.

Appreciate this feedback guys, think i will ditch the tap and get the cobb 3-port solenoid followed by a tuneup.

Get a MAC 35a. Basically the same thing, way cheaper, available in NZ.

Im gonna pick up some new plugs, was looking at the ngk BKR7E's, can anyone suggest the gap these should run at for a v7? Is it .030?

Thanks boon, i had a look at their website, not to sure on the code selections for the 35 series which seems to be the process of ordering one with them. Think i will just call them.....

0.7-0.8mm (0.028 — 0.031 in). What plugs are you currently using?

Moved back to factory boost solenoid after bing on manual boost tap for a few weeks and car seems to be back to limp mode. Wondering if theres a learning period for ECU? Could someone check the first photo in the link below and confirm that the setup is correct, i am running the port that points down to the turbo/wastegate and the other to the AFM as shown in the picture. Restrictor pill is in the line from the turbo.

no not as yet, got new plugs going in today and i as going to give the afm a clean in the weekend. I think ive been runnign on bad plugs for a while

There's no "learning cycle" as such for it to decide if it isn't in limp mode - either your solenoid is busted or the car still has an actual problem which needs to get fixed

Get a lend of a known good AFM. You should see instant difference after putting it in and resetting the ECU if it's the AFM that's playing up, which I have a hunch it might be
