Best Diff options for RWD

Currently got a V3 WRX (maybe sti) rear diff which i pick up off someone on here. My problem is that it constantly spins one wheel so i get stuck everywhere when my car 3 wheels.

Im currently looking at welding up a diff so - Can i only weld up an open diff? Or could i weld up my v3 diff?

Also could i put a diff from an rs legacy into my car? The one with the stub axles. Would that mean i wouldnt have to drain the diff oil to remove it everytime? Also would the axles be stronger/easier to replace?

Anyway im looking for a new diff so if anyone has got anything? Maybe a plate type(if they are the best before welded)

I have an early lsd 4.4 with stubs you can have cheap if it will work.

Doesnt sound like you have a rear diff out of anything turboed as AFAIK they all come factory with some type of locking diff (either plate LSD or Viscous LSD )

might have wrong diff oil but from my memory i put in castrol lsd fluid, not sure which grade as it was a year ago. Might give it a go at changing the diff fluid in hopes to spin two wheels. What oil do you recommend?

Oil type doesnt need to be lsd if its viscous. Plated are bloody rare you wouldve paid thro the nose for it unless they didnt know. Easy way to check is jack up the rear and spin a wheel and if they both spin the same way youre in luck.

Nope thats just any type of working lsd. Also have a phase 2 V5 viscous lsd 4.111 if interested.

As per the first question, the best diff option for you in a r160 is the factory v2 sti 2way plated lsd diff which comes as 3.9ratio which will bolt in.

So i brought an rs diff with the stub axles.

The question now is how do i remove these stubs so i can use my male axles?

They just pull straight out. Put a screwdriver thro and pull one hand each side. Need a good initial jerk to pull them out. Not sure theyre identical splines tho.

It's normal for a factory plated diff to spin one wheel if it's off the ground... they have little preload, the clutch plates

configured to give only a small amount of resistance, and to top it off, a mild cam profile.

So the next best thing would be a 2 way diff or something of the likes?

My RWD WRX use to one wheel (R180 now), but that was because I wore the LSD out.. before it was worn it was Twining up nicely. Started Singling up, then eventually blew.
