Subaru Legacy Selling Like Hot… Cars?

Sales executives at Subaru have sold over twice the number of Legacy sedans and wagons needed to reach the sales target (3,000) for its first month on the market. The often criticized look of the new Legacy obviously hasn’t had an effect on Japanese buyers!

Subaru sold 7,018 Legacy sedans and wagons in the month from May 20th to June 21st which is well over double the sales needed to reach their target of 3,000 that’s great news for Subaru.

Subaru Legacy GT300 Car Not Factory Backed

Contrary to various reports that Subaru would be entering Super GT this year with a factory backed effort, we are now told that they will only be offering technical support for team R&D Sport.

Questions were raised whether Subaru was making the right decision coming back into Super GT in the current economic climate especially after it axed its World Rally Championship program, but it now seems that they are only offering a supportive role to team R&D Sport who are currently preparing the car for competition. R&D Sport will retain the 4WD driveline and apparently the car will be painted white in keeping with R&D Sport’s current livery featuring main sponsor Willcom. The GT300 R&D Sport Subaru Legacy B4 will make its debut race at Round 6 of the Super GT championship to be held at Suzuka Circuit on August 22- 23.

I wonder why they chose to run a Legacy rather than an Impreza in the GT300. Apart from the awkward rear wheel arch, that car looks pretty cool. Great to hear Subaru are making good sales. Hopefully they can ride sales of these new models back to the WRC. I expect that ToyBaru coupe will sell fairly well too.

A hatchback would be of less use than the longer wheelbase Legacy which lends itself better to high speed.

current impreza has a wheelbase very close to the BC/BD/BE legacy, so not short at all

could it be simply that it is a 3 litre class (GT300) ???

The GT300 is kinda like the baby GT class in Japan. Big brother is the GT500. I don't think it relates to capacity. 300 has little things like MR2s and WRXs, 500 has big daddy cars like the NSX, GTR, and Supra.
