Road legal Race cars with New Rego laws

Recommended Posts

Heya guys & gals.

Any of you lot that have road legal race vehicles like Rally or Targa cars had to rego your car since the new laws came in?

What has it cost you for rego since the changes?

Im interested to find out because after all the new law " Is all about the safety abilities of the car" isnt it!

I'm pretty sure that my rally car is a lot safer to crash in rather than my road car!

always a bone of contention there for me, purpose built vehicle is no longer a passenger car yet pays same rego fees

otherwise i dont think anything changes (other than paying less as per a normal car for you make/model)

Yea I am with you there! Its not just rego they still havent sorted but stuff like diesel milage as well. My aunts 09 Toyota Corolla nana car is a diesel & it still gets charged the same as a heavier vehicle... I know this change is just for rego but I would have expected them to be able to sort it out by now.

I tried to register my Avenger "Rally car" as an ATV once, did'nt go down well with the man at LTNZ ( of whatever they call them selves these days) we had a few emails

it meets the requirements on their website... http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/factsheets/19

All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are vehicles that are principally

designed for off-road use.

They have 3 or more wheels, an engine capacity exceeding 50ml

and a gross weight of less than 1000 kilograms (which is the

greater of the on-road weight with load and accessories OR the

gross laden weight set by the manufacturer). ATVs include most

quad bikes, smaller ‘side by sides’ and amphibious vehicles. They

do not include ‘utes’ or light trucks, even if modified for off-road

travel - these are originally constructed for road use and are too

heavy to meet the definition.

There are more than 100,000 ATVs in New Zealand, mostly used

on farms.

side by sides these days are larger / basically the same thing

My workshop is on a private road 1.1km from my residence...

Conditions not requiring a WoF:

in moving from the place you live to a road that is not a public highway when the distance travelled is less than 3km

no its not a farm machinery & I wouldn't recommend fraudulent use of the rego system, they do do audits

Yep basically no change and my bloody daily is the same too. meanwhile my misses forester is half price.

Good tv report on it last night, where they are reviewing some cars and changing the category they are in. Might email about the racecar and see what they say.
