Fixing an ECU Loom Plug

In my ongoing electrical woes I came across this hokey connection which is barely holding on (perhaps three intact strands).

I believe this is crank sensor as fiddled with by the alarm. It has been cut and connected right at the plug. I'm not sure what the best approach to fixing it would be. If I cut it, there will be virtually nothing sticking out of the plug. The plug doesn't seem to open - is there a tool for popping connection/ pins out of these? Not sure if this is my problem, but it can't be helping. What would you auto sparkies do?

So do you use a tool to fit pins/ wires to a bare plug? I'm a total noob Luke, I need hand holding info haha

If you get a plug they come with the connectors which you can fit with plyers or a crimping tool. It's real easy like real easy Sam.

Just get 1 pin and replace that 1 pin. Even a second hand one with a good length of wire. They easy to De pin.

OK, sooo, I buy second hand pin from ... and de pin it easily by ...

On yer knees sam. Go to pickapart have a play. They have a little catch/barb prob use a pin or something to flick it out. Kamineko knows this shiz as will rosssub.

Yip, most plugs have a locking mechanism that holds the pins in place. Pry the locking tabs up with a small flathead screwdriver etc then the pins will pull out of the plug, (small tug with pliers on the pins wire).

So if you grab a replacement plug, with about 200mm of wire, you can replace just the broken/damaged wires/pins and solder/crimp to the existing loom.

post a photo looking into the plug and someone can use some paint skills to show how the pin comes out . the best thing about pickapart is you can have a practice haha .

or buy the whole plug u want and practice on all the wires u dont need

scientific screwdrivers would prolly be a good start

OK cool, thanks for the pointers guys. Got the same style plug at Pick-a-part, then stopped in at rumbley's and he showed me how to get a pin out. Has two little hinged caps; for top and bottom row pins respectively. Swing that out of the way, and as mentioned, shove a tiny screwdriver above and behind the pin head to release the plastic barb holding it in.

Woops, just realised it isn't the same. Oh well, I guess I can still use these pins once I figure out how to open mine.

There is 2 different size pins in the plugs. You need right size

Yep. This plug has the two different sizes. I just need to figure out how my plug opens. The green plug I got today actually fits in one of the ECU sockets, so I assume I can recover a compatible pin.
