Up and down idle?

Hello all,

Ok so my legacy has started to develop a random idle speed when its on choke (cold idle), it seems to go up and down a fair bit, obviously its supposed to go down in speed but back up again? It maybe lasts 5-10 seconds for each different speed and I have just started to notice that randomly when I pull up to stop at lights or wherever the revs will jump up as well, not very often though. My thoughts the idle control thingy is starting to pack it in?

i have no suggestions for you but can say that my car suffers from this too. a real pain.

esp is the morning when you're just cruising along under light throttle and it goes all surgy like that.

feels like you're driving over bumps in the road.

is yours auto or manual? because i guess you wouldn't feel that in an auto.

vac leak,o2sensor,afm.

dunno really,mine has had the same problem and was diagnosed as 02 sensor.

Air flow meter is my guess, second guess O2 sensor.

Mines manual, hmmm sounds like it might need to go in to be looked at?

auto or manual makes no difference. its the engine causing the trouble not the gearbox

Mines does this too, got a scan done, i replaced the 02 sensor which was the apparent problem, but still does it so if you do take it in and they manage to fix it can you please PM the result as I'm interested in knowing what they came up with for yours

Has anyone tried cleaning the idle speed controller?? Seems obvious to me.....

Nah... that's way too easy ;D

was going to but then got told that i couldn't get a gasket for it for about 3 weeks as its got to come from Japan, so i decided to just leave it

(quick question... If i wanted to remove it, i have some CRC Gasket Glue stuff (Gasket 260) would that work and replace the gasket so i don't have to wait 3-4 weeks?)

You don't need to remove the early ones. Take the afm out and start it up. Spray the cleaner down the intake pipe.

Now I'm lost... , we are talking about the thing that you can adjust sitting on the passenger side of inlet manifold right? thing with 4 bolt holding it on or am i thinking of something else?

i would have through that you need to remove it to get it properly clean??

Its one way.

I would push off the intake pipe on the bottom of the IAVC and spray into that.

But then i would just remove the whole assembly and spray it properly.

Do not undo or tamper with the screws on top.

have you got an external venting blow off?

also

clean the idle controll valve

basically unbolt it and clean with break cleaner spray

dry

refit
