Aftermarket intercooler for Legacy GT?

The intercooler on my 2003 Legacy GT BP looks a little on the too small side and those plastic header tanks worry me. I'm getting a turbo beanie and will be heat wrapping my downpipe, but I still feel like this intercooler's not going to help me get the most out of the TD04HLA 19T that's on the car as I want to run 18PSI to redline with better timing.

 

Thanks to Suby changing the intake system on the Legacy GT versus the WRX, it's not as straightforward as putting a top mount STi intercooler in without changing the the intake manifold as well and who knows what else I'll need to change on top of that

 

This has lead me to looking for aftermarket solutions and these are VERY expensive and most of them won't fit as they're designed to work with the USDM 2.5GT which has a different intercooler design to the JDM 2.0GT

 

I've looked on Trademe and at various websites in NZ and I can't find anything at all. Does anyone know where I can find one locally or does anyone have any other ideas on how I can solve this problem?

Yea so you'll struggle to hold 18psi to redline regardless of intercooler type. They just don't flow enough to keep up.

The Processwest one is basically the only option that works on the twinscroll legacy comp outlet as there is some give in the silicone pipe to account for the slightly different outlet position. 

 

What downpipe have you got? Subtech?

He was selling one on here iirc. Not badly priced for what it was imo.

Custom front mount would be the most effective.

 

A quick google brings up the Process West from MRT and AVO kits from Australia which seem like OK value.

+1 for custom front mount, $600-700 all up for core, pipe, silicone, clamps and a weekend to get it all together.

 

Be wary of the AVO ones as Aussie got the 2.0gt and 2.5gt so alot of their stuff is only 2.5gt relevant.
