Power Steering

My steering light has been on for quite some time and my power steering is gone. I'm just wondering if its dangerous to leave it for a long time before getting it looked at?

Will not getting it fixed soon while continuing to use the car further damage things?

(i don't know where brake booster and pump is :'( )

Check if there's a wire coming out the back of your PS pump. If there is, make sure its connected. Also check under the brake booster for a wire going down to the rack, and again, if its there, make sure its connected.

Otherwise, GET IT SORTED ASAP!! No power steer is dangerous!!

So where can i find the power pump? i take it it is not too difficult for me to find? same for the other thing?

sorry to hijack but what does that wire on the power steer pump actually do? my original v2 pump has it but ive since mixed and matched pumps/tanks/pulley and the new one doesnt have this wire so have left it unplugged and nothing on dash comes up or anything?

does it do anything?

Just tells the ECU to increase engine speed as the pump is under load. Its a pressure switch.

Haha, I broke my wire off replacing the pump the other day, was a pain in the ass trying to solder it back together where it broke...

Turns out it needs a new computer or something. mechanics can't find one yet though.

yeah my v4 pump has no wire but the v8 loom has a plug...so no plugged in and works fine

$2000 for a new power steering computer said the mechanic..or need to find a 2nd hand one with the same numbers. Does anyone of any knowledge of this part and the number thing?

If i can't find one i guess i'm gonna have to get a new car since i won't pass wof :-\

They do indeed have a P/S ECU. Silver box attached to the underside of the steering column.

Boomer - have you had it sent away to be fixed?? Try Anything Electronic in Nelson.

As far as i know the sporty steering button alters or turns off the power assistance at low speeds.

I was abit worried i was being dicked around but "boostin" confirms im not. thankfully i got a call and they found one that will work and its only 268$.

The mechanics is called newtown auto electrical. in wellington.

Jesus christ thats expensive, you can buy whole parts cars for that. Id call a couple wreckers if i was you and double check their numbers
