idle control valve

Hi,

My 96 WRX is running very rough and stalling. The fault code is 24 indicaing the idle control valve. Does anyone know the common problems if any..or what sort of voltage I should be looking for in the plug for the throttle posostion sensor?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think the correct check will be to test/measure resistance in the coil/solenoid.

The idle control valve operates by changing the duty cycle, not the voltage. If you can get some-one to connect it to a laptop the duty cycle should be around forty-five percent, too much more or less indicates a problem, like an air leak for instance.

You could check all the vacuum hoses and pipes visually and you could put a vacuum gauge on the car to check it's vacuum at idle.

is that a v3? mine used to tdo that and i opened the idle control thing and cleaned it and the issue went away

use parts and break cleaner for it

Id probably use something more volatile than brake cleaner, a specific carb or intake cleaner should work betterer

yea give it a go..

i just used the break cleaner on recomendation from here

but was good tho..

there is a rubber diafram thing in the idle control so dont go too corrosive as may get rubber destroyed.. it didnt look too strong...

I had this same issue on my V6 STi. Cleaned the idle control valve (icv), throttle position sensor (TPS) and throttle body out and sprayed some contact cleaner on the AFM sensor and that solved my rough idle issue.

On a related issue, What is the sealing method for the IAC valve on a V6 (I think?) STi.

I found a poked O-ring in there but Subaru will only sell me the whole valve. Anyone know roughly what size I need?

find a subaru parts manual for ur car... they are handy and list the o-ring sizes

Or, take to repco - they have a selection of orings
