Replacing a Steering Rack Boot

Is this an easy job? What would I need? Any help would be appreciated - I need to do one for a warrant and have no clue.

i needed one for my wof once contemplated trying it myself but it only cost me 60 to get a mechanic to do,i think one sides harder to do then the other i was lucky i needed the cheap one

Easy enough, best to get a wheel alignment done afterwards if your not confident.

Assuming its the same job as on a Legacy;

Youll need a few different size spanners, 14mm, 17mm, 19mm and 24 i think. Dont quote me on that though.

Mark the threads of your tie rod with some spray paint or some electrical tape so you know how far to tighten everything back up once youve got the new boot on there.

Jack up, wheel off, pull the boot off the steering rack end and undo the tie rod, unscrew the tie rod and slide boot off, replace with the new boot and reassemble everything.

easy as mentioned do it yourself and spend the $$ saved on piss or gas

I did this on a leggy last night, got those "stretch" style boots that slip over the tie rod end with a sock, saves you from having to undo the tie rod end and mucking up your wheel alignment. Worked mint and only took 15mins
