sti v7 front wheel bearing

STI

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I think my right front wheel bearing is gone. Is it hard to replace it by yourself? Will it be the same for STI? If you've done it before, please let me know how, thanks very much.

any idea how much the bearing will cost?

They are pressed in are they not?

That they are.

There is an inlet and outlet seal, and a Snap ring to hold the bearing in place...

$69 for the Bearing

$13.50 for the Inlet seal

$15 for the Outlet Seal

and Just reuse the snap ring!

To do it yourself you'll need a hydraulic press and some sleeves to press the old one out and the new one in properly.

They are not a tight fit in there. They can be knocked out with a punch and hammer.

You only hit the outer part of the bearing and you tap it all around the perimeter so they move without cocking over and it is easy.

Clean the hub well before fitting the new bearings and don't over fill the hub with grease.

Sorry LOG1, these are press apart and press back together, one big dual roller bearing -retained in the hub with a circlip

No grease req'd as the bearings are pre packed, and there is absolutely no space in the hub for grease

Well lets just say then that I can knock those wheel bearings out.

To be fair though... I'm a self employed mechanic that has been in the trade for thirty- five years. I've been A grade for thirty years and self employed for thirty. I work in the country and have learnt to be practical... There isn't much I can't do with simple hand tools.

Having said that... anybody with a good punch and a proper hammer can change those bearings. They are no different to a lot of modern cars front wheel bearings(sorry to burst the bubble guys).

that grease they are packed with is not good wheel bearing grease, it's grease to stop them going rusty.. always get rid of that crap and use proper stuff

that is correct. some workshops get caught out by this and the genuine wheel bearing lasts only 3000km!

always re pack the new bearing with new grease

Factory grease is fine !, it's they way MUPPETS press the hub back together that stuffs everything up !

I have probably fitted 200 or more wheel bearings to Sub's over the years , and No prob with factory grease. EVER !

Do you think they repack the bearings in the factory before assmbling a car !! Haha ha ha Funny

There was a bulletin around 2001, that suggested repacking as possible contamination of grease as I recall (long time ago anyway)

(also mentioned specific production runs and issue sorted as of batch #'s)

Took it to the suspension specialist and found out the problem, the wheel bearing was loose. tighten it up and it's all sweet as now.

Hi Hopai, thanks for the offer anyway, i will need them one day, maybe after a year(thats wat they recon)?

Very unusual... Brg's don't just become loose

Tightening the nut will be masking as issue with the drive flange / hub

Best option is to loosen the nut again and check for any play in wheel bearing

If there is ANY play at all you need to dismantle and assess

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
