Hey mate just bought a 1997 wrx sti. has a clear hose going across the engine from the intake was wondering what people might think it is.goes from half way down the air intake across to the right side of the manifold and then goes under the manifold unsure what it is as the car is boost spiking between 17psi and 22psi.factory blow off valve was refitted before he bought it so possibly a boost leak??

Sounds like someones dodgy boost gauge install. If the gauge end of the hose wasnt blocked off and he ran it off the same line as the boost solenoid - that would cause your problems

18 factory?! no sir.. my v3 sti with 23 ran 14.7 as per every other sti

STILtd had a v3 sti factory as with a full exhuast and run 18psi all day every day and iddnt have a boost controller..

I also have a Mines chipped ecu and it ran 14.7

sounds like your chipped computer was standard... usually a chipped computer will up the boost. thats what they do.

this is pointless and not helping the origional poster. you havent even been in my car - so trying to convince me or anyone else otherwise about what i have or what it ran is pointless

was told by club member 555sti in wellies.that sti v4 runs 16psi standard.

would have thought the mines computer would be tuned for less boost but more Powerh

when my legacy was reloomed with sti v3 loom and ran factory ej20k engine and factory 6s ecu boost was 16psi

16 psi on my old one, and it hit the boost cut just over. Maybe the difference is in the gauges?

If you run a full exhaust on the stock ecu you can get more boost.

Most usually its just a spike in the lower rev range tho. Alot of people say there car is doing 19psi etc - but put it on a dyno you see it may hit 19psi but tails off as the revs rise.

The stock boost controller obviously is setup with a factory exhaust in mind.

Bigger exhaust spools the turbo up quicker sometimes faster than the stock ecu can cope with.

My v4 was about 15psi.
