Help. oil leaking form rear of engine

hi I've just completely rebuilt my 1990 rs engine had it in the car for about 100 km and today i look under the car and there is oil dripping off the sub frame area i cleaned it off and ran it for a bit on idle but no leaking oil only when i revved the engine and gave it oil pressure did oil come out of the rear of the engine it has got new main seal so i don't think it could be that, completely stumped at this stage any help would be awesome.

The most common reason I find as the cause of an oil leak from the rear of the engine is not the rear main seal, but the large inspection plate held to the block by 6 screws.

2 causes of the leak from the plate are either;

1) Plate not siliconed or poor application of silicon.

2) Plate cracked (only happens with the bakerlite plates).

I won't put an engine in with a bakerlite inspection plate, only an aluminium or the new pressed steel ones.

I broke that rule with an engine I put in a Legacy GT wagon recently and paid the price - engine out and an ally plate fitted and the problem was solved.

So the bottom line is, engine (or gearbox) has to come out to fix the problem.

ad agree with this... just replaced mine... was a manufacturer fault really...

just fixed a leak where the oil drain goes into the head, pain in the arse!

if you're under the car you can usually see if there's oil coming out of the bell housing. If that's clean it'll be leaking from the turbo somewhere

yeah its deff coming out of bell housing some where but only when the engine is hot on start up from cold there isnt any leaks hmmm

well Ive replace the rear plate gaskets and guess what its still pissing out oil big time any more ideas? cos i'm out of them
