Jap car tuners get a pasting

...coming off almost as bad as the Mountain Warrior...

;D

October issue of Australian Motor magazine features 22 extreme modified cars; Japs, Yanks, Aussies, Euros.

The best the Jap tuners could do was make places 10 (MRT Evo X) and 4 (City Performance GTR).

The rest of the top ten were one Yank, two Aussies and a heap of Euros.

Thoroughly.

;)

Dyno runs at Subaru Australia's Eastern Creek training facility.

Straightline testing (0-100km/h, 0-400m, v-max@400m, 100km/h-0), at Western Sydney International Dragway.

Timed laps at Oran Park.

Warren Luff and John Bowe were the test drivers.

meh it will always vary.

diff cars, diff fuels, etc etc. local conditions.

TONS of variables.

Only way to make it equal is use same base car ie say evo 9 or whatever. Brand new. Give them same budget, same fuel, same amount of guys, for one event say drag.

Rinse and repeat for circuit.

Ditto top power, top speed etc.

It's a bit hard to compare different tuners when you make them all use the same car - as all tuners have certain areas of expertise.

- It's not like they marketed it as "The best (insert brand here) Tuner"

Bollocks.

It wasn't a test of what each tuner could do with the same materials.

It was a test of how successful each tuner was with their chosen car.

Out of curiosity what were the other cars in the top 10?

I cant say Ive ever had much time for Motor - mainly as it seemed rather local manufacturer biased (Ford/Holden). But thats only my opinion and its a while since Ive read a copy.

So if i tune an Evo 8 and make 600hp reliably at the wheels, and do 10 second passes on its ear, who is to say that this makes me an inferior tuner than someone who makes 1000hp at the wheels in a GTR or V8, and does 8 second passes?

Does this not say that the product I work with is inferior to begin with, rather than any indication of my tuning ability?

I have the latest issue of EVO.

New Maclaren with comparison to the new Ferrari 458.

But maybe of more interest they drive the new Spec C.

Keypoints;

No Spec C badges

30kg Lighter

2.0 304bhp

New ball bearing turbo

Inter cooler water spray

New rear mechanical LSD

High lateral-g fuel pump

Type specific Dampers/Springs

Thicker rear anti-roll bar

18" alloys

Bridgstone Pontenza RE070's

A second faster around Honda's Motegi complex than a normal STI.

There's a Spec C drive story in Motor too.

Probably written by the same guy, Peter Lyon.

New Spec C is still a fat bastard at 1450kg.

Ha ha indeed, should have known; Have bought enough MOTOR to figure they often get some of there big story's from them.

Will pick it up on Payday.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
