Suspension mods for dirt track - Type R

Guest

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Just wanted to know what suspension mods can i do to my type R for improving the handling on a dirt track and street as well. Currents suspension mods are:

Tein low springs

Factory front strut brace

Greddy rear strut brace

factory shocks

How much difference will front and rear sway bars make in terms of bang for buck?

Thanks

Get rid of the Tein's for starters. They're too low, too soft, and will quickly wear out your OEM struts.

Larger swaybars will improve how your car performs on the road through reducing roll but they also decrease your suspension's independence which is never a good idea on dirt.

Improving your handling will all be about compromises since a car that performs well on the street won't necessarily perform well off-road.

I would spend money on a new strut/spring combo. Something stiffer with a lot of travel.

When you say you want it to handle on dirt track, do you mean with proper rally tyres on and on gravel or just playing round in the grass?

For gravel on proper rally tyres, firstly you need ground clearance. Not tonnes of it but enough to get you over the bit that mounds up in the crest of the road. Factory suspension at factory ride height can work ok. Big, tough underbody protection helps alot too as everything gets hammered. With a Type R, fully lock the DCCD when on loose surfaces unless you want to be going nowhere sideways like a BDA Escort.

Often, disconnecting the rear swaybar will make the car more predictable on gravel.

Basically you do everything the opposite to what you'd do to make it handle nicely on sealed surfaces ;)

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
