AFM for 98 legacy GTB Limited

Had the code 23 come up for the CEL as after driving sometimes the car shudders when accelerating when warm after lights change etc. Got it hooked up to a diagnostic test at the subaru dealership and they also confirmed a code 23 and said to replace the air flow meter (AFM) is going to cost me $770.00 which i thought was DAMN expensive, is there any other options on this? reconditioning etc? i could buy a second hand one but then the same thing could happen a few weeks later and hence no guarantees on it. And also would this be the source of the problem for the shuddering of the car when it is warm and when im accelerating after changing gears?? only does it occasionally. And is it definately necessary to replace it?

$770.00 if you are buying a new AFM from Japan, then sending it on a world tour, before you put it in your car..

Are you serious..

get a second hand AFM from a wreckers and replace the broken one with the good one, i think there about 80 -150 from Aable parts or call Becky at Sub bits and see if she has one. Even if you live in Invercargill you will still save money.

And is it definately necessary to replace it? arrrrrrrr yes, because they wont fix themselves :-\

You have an orange sticker AFM which makes it all the more fun, they are one of the more sought after AFM's out there. I can ring strong for subaru and see if they have one, and what their special price is for me.

I had one priced up at sublab in the hutt about a year ago at $590. That was with some reasonable discounting, but def not $180 worth.

I'd def try other options.

if these are the same as what i have just priced up, it is $200 incl GST

The part number for mine was 22794-aa010, and that is for a v5/6 STI or BE5/BH5 legacys

The white writing on the AFM is c36-700 R92 teh R92 means Turbo Application, where-as R82 is NA

I just told them at subaru "hey i can get these for $180 off Trade Me, whats your best price?" and he said they are normally $250.

I dont think i would buy second hand for such a important sensor.

98 GTB limited i think you will find is a BG shape.. thus version 3/4 engine so different to yours Bazza

Yeah, post 98's are quite a bit cheaper than the orange AFM's unfortunately.

cheers for all your comments etc guys, hopefully managed to source one that was bought new and only used for two weeks and has a warranty/guarantee from the guy with it so fingers crossed that goes as planned.
