How to measure inlet temps

Jaycar do a nice digital temp gauge - goes upto 150 C

Be nice to see some real data - as most people just waffle on to how bad / good they are but don't do any research.

CAT. NO. XC0224

You should be able to put the ss probe between the WAIC and the Manifold. To reach the cabin you will need to splice a longer cable.

joe if you want to get one i might also and run it with my Vf23 front mount set up. I konw the 23 is right at its limits and would be very interesting to see how the temps change when i move to a different turbo.

infact - qwerty.. if im running a link - its already measureing myinlet temps right? I have the sensor in the back of my manifold - how do i go about finding out what the temps are?

If you want accurate temperature readings you are going to need something a good deal more than that i'd imagine. It's easy to get a relative value using a temperature dependent resistor but if you want accurate figures you have us a proper temperature sensor which requires special wire and formulas applied to it's readings to compensate for the lenght of wire.

The simplist thing would be to have two temperature sensitive resistors with one in the air cleaner and one at the throttle body then comapre the two and get an idea of the difference. It would still need formula applying if you want accurate temperatur readings but it would be simple to get some reletive figure that would be reasonably accurate and that could be scaled up or down in a fairly linear way..

sorry im a apexi pfc ecu user - one of the link boys will answer in more detail.

Surely you just need to plug in a laptop with the link tuning software ?

cheers for that.......yes I'm after hard data here. i want to measure temps before and after the waic so i can see the overall temp drop.

Will this work.........I'll position the sensor just after the turbo outlet (because i want to record temps b4 they go into the waic) do a few hard runs & log the data...........

Then I'll change the sensor position to just before the throttle body inlet and do a few hard runs again

That should give me temps before and after the waic ...........and I'll be able to estimate the overall temp drop the waic is giving me from the data.

Once I switch to my fmic setup I'll run the tests again and compare the data............should be interesting.

somebody must have done this b4 surely?

This where i got the idea from.

Now we move onto the task of installing the 45mm stainless steel sensor probe...

Because we elected to mount the display in the cabin and the sensor probe under the bonnet, we were forced to extend the one metre length of connecting wire. But to check that we weren't about to mess up the display accuracy (by varying the resistance in the thermister circuit), we first tested its readings. This was done by inserting the probe into a mix of ice and water (zero degrees C) and then into boiling water (100 degrees C). The module's readings were then pitted against a digital thermometer in a shared glass of warm tap water. What was the reasoning behind all of this, you ask. Simple. This procedure gave us figures at low, medium and high temperatures - a wide spread of readings was what we were after.

Now, with our baseline noted, we soldered in a 1.5 metre length of dual-core insulated hook-up wire - a size that gives us scope to relocate the sensor anywhere else further down the track. Immediately after, we again tested the accuracy of the display. Phew... much to our relief, inserting the extension wire hadn't stuffed up the measurements at all.

yeah I'd be interested in getting one just to do these tests

yep that sounds about right - its not going to be perfect but it will be close enough.

I have never bothered to check intercooler efficiency i have only worried about the differencial over ambient.

In the end thats all that matters power wise.

sweet.........yeah I want some comparative data on waics vs fmic that's why I'm interested in the overall temp drop between the 2

Here's some hard data regarding WAIC vs FMIC on a Legacy/LIberty.

Should answer anything you may want to know.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
