V5 wrx faint surging

Hi All,

I have just bought a a '98 v5 wrx. It runs nicely and boosts well, however when lightly accelerating with almost no boost the motor surges. The surge is very subtle and doesn't seem to be consistent almost like a very faint pulse of power then not so much power. As soon as I back of or put my foot down it goes away.

Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this.

Yea, and nothing showing. Might see if I can find an o2 sensor to try and see if that makes a difference.

Agree with the o2 sensor bein faulty. Had the exact problem on my V4 STi , changed the o2 sensor, cleared the surging straight away.

how much are O2 sensors? and where is best to get them, ripco or subaru?

mine surges while crusing in 3rd mainly. my last one did it to.

I'm battling with the same type of thing in my 97 forester. Surgy on slight throttle and lumpy idle, well not lumpy exactly more Like surgy idle too Esp when cold. Just goes up and down while sitting at lights. Any ideas?

I just changed mine as it was coming up on the computer but i wasn't getting any surge now that i've changed it i'm getting that surging problem but no fault code.

i think the repco one is the problem i'm thinking of going down to subroo to see how much for a 2nd hand one so i'll tell you then.

edit $120 then the clubsub discount looks brand new and its the plug i needed great help from the guys/girl

they had plenty of different versions so would pay to call and ask.

Just priced one at subaru dealership. $300 + GST. Funny thing is the guy seemed to think that my car should have an o2 sensor in the header and there catalog didn't show one for the down pipe. My car definitely has one in the down pipe, although my down pipe is after market so it could have been moved?

Should I just get the one they had listed and put it in the down pipe or is something funny going on here?

sure did and it sure was

to confirm if it is you o2 sensor unplug it and if the problem goes away like mine did replace it.

bugger, that's not my problem then. i un plugged the O2 sensor and still got the vague roaming idle, bit hard to feel the surge as there aren't many roads smooth enough to really feel it on. but i know it hasn't fixed the idle....

any more suggestions from the masses??

yeah got it cheaper due to being in the club and knowing him but thats the 1st price he gave me.
