What Speakers ???? 98 WRX hatch

??? hello everyone was wondering what sorta speakers sit in the 98 wrx wagon doors? are they 6 or 6 n 1/2 in all four doors? i am wanting to replace them all with pioneers but wanting to know if anyone knows what size go in them?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

my doors have 6.5" in them, but i also made wooden spacers for them as they were too deep...

Japanese 6.5" (16cm) speakers will fit. i.e. Pioneer, Sony, JVC... American 6.5" speakers i.e. Alpine, Rockford Fosgate, Boston, JBL... which are true 6.5" (17cm) will not fit and require aftermarket spacers

Most subaru speakers manufactured after 1998 are a single one-piece molded plastic spacer/speaker, so u need spacers anyway

A lot of manufacturers also do a multi-fit OEM speaker usually in the form of a 2-way coaxial designed to fit factory locations.

Wagons generally have 6.5" in front doors and 4" in the rear ones

Yep what spark_38 said, except for you don't always need new spacers. You can hack up the plastic factory spacer if the magnet is too deep, just cut the angled back part off with a hacksaw. Or the last time I did it, I broke it off bit by bit with a large pliers haha. I installed a set of Pioneer speakers and they went straight in.

i think there 5.25 in the rear and 6" but a 6.5" will fit in the front doors.

I bought some 6" for the rears and they aren't going to fit as there to deep a magnet.

i will try and open the door cards and see what size i have in them i hopw they dont have any size that are hard to get i.e. 5.25inch lol....

checked the speakers in my car i have 16cm speakers in front i think it means 6 or 6.5inch n in the rear 12 cms slightly bigger than a 4inch

Less than stuff all if they aren't being run off an amp and are in a door that isn't sound deadened.

So not worth trying to squeeze a 6.5" in when a 6" will do. <speaker, that is!>

So without sound deadening would I be wasting my time hooking door speakers up to an amp?

If you amp them they will still go louder with more clarity. you just dont get the bass. But thats not what those kind of speakers are for anyway. Idealy you would have some kind a low pass filter cutting the bass from going to them and running a subwoofer instead.

The best subs for space restriction are the flat piston types, Pioneer for example.

Personally I don't bother with rear speakers... why give passengers music? It's your car!

If you do your front stage right, then it will immerse your car in sound anyway.

It's only a small cabin, not like a house living room or movie theatre.

Where do you put Pioneer flat piston subs?

You may have room underneath your front seats for a small box if it's a 10", but more than likely not. Best place is still in your boot, they just don't require a box nearly as big as a standard sub.

yeah i want a rear strut brace but i have a 12" pioneer in the boot i was thinking about just cutting it into the box.

Do you think this will affect the sound much as its not a ported box at the mo.

even if its still sealed and you just make a slot for the brace it would still change the sound. most people dont realise how much the shape and size of the box controlls the sound.
