yea well duna, but she aint starting, was guna do a reset just b4 so moved it out of the shed and now wont start

Oh ok, they must have checked all the other stuff... surely,

id ask them if the did infact check the brushes and take it from there

actually if they have done the armature bearings they wud have seen the brushes, and from my experiance those str mtrs dont wear out the brushes much.

I have seen an intermittant short in the windings of the solenoid on those, i wonder if its worth getting a cheap S/H one and swaping yr known good bits into it?

heres a trick, run a wire straight from the batt postive to where the wee wire goes on to the str mtr (the one from the key) and see if it starts then (watch you dont short the wire on any thing)

This will bypass the starter relay and/or votlage drop from other starting components (ign switch)

wheres the solanoid on these? all the car does its make a ting/clik from starter motor like it was before i took it out

That moves the ring gear on the fly wheel to another position

that cud mean the ring gear on the flywheel has a bur on it in one position and/or teh drive teeth on the str mtr have a bur or are worn too

haha, yea painful aye.... um ring the sparkys that did the str mtr and tell them u still hv the issue and ask them if they checked the brushes, the armature for shorts, the drive and its bearings etc etc

most sparkys check all these things by default just make sure.

ANd if yuu have to take it off again, you are going to have to check the ring gear on the FW for bad buring and file if need be (painful job)

Failing that get a s/h str mtr and swap all your good bits into it

yer, thats the thing too, if someone has put a slightly different str mtr on from a diff year or what ever.

yea, im in a small town so will have 2 wait till monday 2 get down 2 see them, wont start again now, just went and made sure everything was on starter tight, u gota pic of what mine should look like? it has a green sticker on it

oh yip, thats what you call a reduction gear str mtr, most them are these days sept some use planetary gears.

Thats typical of that year STI but i dont know if they are all the same models for GF8s

ok, well bugger knows what il do,cant be the push start button as its getting power 2 the starter or could it be?

to get it started you can tap the str mtr lightly with a small hammer while someone turns the key, see if that works

take the switch off, take the wires off and bridge them out i.e. just hold them together for the short period enough to start the car
