Updrading a VF30 Turbo

Hi, I want to upgrade my VF30 Turbo on a EJ20 motor. What options are the best? It is for a dirt track car - rear wheel drive. Thanks

So you'd want something with a fast spool and holds the selected boost pressure to redline correct?

I would of thought that a VF30 would be one of the best overall without having to modify the flanges to take something aftermarket.

i guess you need to ask what is it that you dont like about the vf30 that you want to replace?

vf30 is an awesome turbo

I have been told that my car has around 320HP at the wheels and I was looking to increase this without too much turbo lag. I am running a straight through 3 inch exhaust. I am using Avgas. Any other ideas would be great!

has your ecu been chipped? What year car is it running in? what boost do you run? any other mods apart from exhuast? forged engine? front mount?

Like others said.. the VF30 is one of the best balanced turbos you can get.

vf30 is one of the better turbos but only if we are talking factory subaru turbos, to go bigger you will be looking at aftermarket, and quite a bit of work to fit one up.

a vf30 on a v3 sti or similar engine will respond better than a 89 rs engine.

so how about giving full details of your engine, turbo your running now, fuel system, computer etc. the more details the better for you.

If your running 320hp at the wheels thats pretty much the limit of that turbo or any vf turbo.

Any upgrade in the power stakes will take longer to spoolup. The VFs spool up pretty well.

If you got a good td05 20g then you might make 10% more power.

Thanks very much for all of the info.

I am running the VF30 turbo now but it has got a couple of little chips in the blade and the bearings have gone in it too (I will replace these if this Turbo is the best to go with) - can it be high-flowed?? Fuel system: I have 8 injectors in it but only 4 of them are hooked up at the moment - I brought it like this - am unsure why they have done it like this. Computer system: it is a Links plus which was reprogrammed 3 years ago. I am running the factory air to water intercooler with an ice box. I am in the middle of stripping the motor - don't know much about it as this is the first Subaru I have raced.

I think there is a guy on TradeMe selling a VF36 twin scroll setup. That'll spool faster than your VF30, same size wheels in it. I think what you'll want is a broader torque band, not top end power.
