Dont use the bell housing bolts to pull the gearbox onto the engine, make sure you have it so it pushes up relatively freely without any tension on the bolts. Seen damage caused this way from people who should be working on massey fergusons instead of subarus.

What these guys have said, Take your time and make sure everything fits nicely first

If its a man box - put it in neutral, makes installing them a hell of a lot easier (not sure about auto's, i refused to put an auto box on a subaru engine)

I use a rope around the bottom of the gearbox with sometime standing on the strut towers to lift the box up and guide it on, jack underneath the gearbox to keep it level and it usually just slides right on in

Recently we just removed the whole engine for shits and giggles but that was for a auto to man conversion

I wedge a mallet between the alternator pulley and the radiator support, seems to be just the right size. Then get a helper to lift the bellhousing by standing on the strut tops while i lie under the car with the tail shaft on my chest. Then its an easy matter of lifting and wiggling the back end around untill it slides on.

Also if you dont have a clutch alignment tool - just leave all the pressure plate bolts finger tight and do them up once the gearbox is on through the clutch fork hole.

(Next time i do it - will take lots of photos and do an idiots guide write up)

You may be the pioneer sir, but i am taking the credit!

Used the same technique on Shauns car over christmas and it worked well

Same technique we used when we (* you coz i munched my thumb) in Nov when we did my Forester. Though we had the magic clutch alignment fairy help us out when we went looking for a clutch alignment tool and found it all sorted when we got back 8)

heres a tip. dont force it or hang the input shaft from the clutch plate without having the box on the dowels in the block..., also have the box in a gear and have the driveshaft in the rear of it so you can turn the input shaft to line up the splines .

good luck.

Thats how we do it when you need to have it changed in less than 30 mins. Much faster and if you have the right technique it doesn't hurt at all. Just takes a bit of benchpressing strength so I usually opt to be the one to help align it and wiggle the driveshaft ;)

On a side note - if anyone DOES have a hoist in their garage, id love to use it for a few hours to rip my gas tank out

holy crap, this is a pain in the ass to do, i did mine, the amount of swearing, got to drop the rear diff mount stuff and everything

Or if you know any way to get rid of those damned stones that get stuck above it. Mine have been rattling from side to side since 2008 now. Can be heard in all of my in-car vids.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
