  1. I'm still working 7 days so effort for meets is minimal. Will be doing the four pot install on the grav ex soon so I'll post that up and y'all can come help if you wish. Most people don't really like to just Park up, but in saying that the crowd has changed. So, if you would like to Organise a meet please feel absolutely free to. You'll only know how many will turn up if you organise something. With summer coming up you could also consider a cruise and invite people along from Palmy etc. Lake ferry. Castle point, anywhere that looks good on google maps, perhaps even look at past cruises for ideas. It's also almost race season, so there will be plenty of events to attend if you're that way inclined. There's an Auto X at Manfield Nov 4th https://www.facebook.com/events/361032174326231/?ti=as

  3. I finalised the Cobb AP etune on my WRX today, courtesy of Phil (philr8) at Dynotech Industries in New Plymouth. Very easy process in the end over about a week, and produced results I am happy with from the FA20 with only a Cobb catted j pipe and exhaust (in line what others around the world are getting with a custom tune and these mods: about 280-290whp). The final virtual dyno (green line): From what I've read, I'm approaching a wall with the torque as the stock FA20 doesn't like much more than 470Nm, but an intercooler upgrade might help drivability a bit, as I've definitely noticed some issues with heat soak over the last year.

  7. Thanks, practice in a slow car has made me a lot faster, but always room to improve still! Hillclimbs, autocrosses and track days all just generally need a fire extinguisher, overalls and a helmet. Ohh and you need to be a member of a motorsport NZ affiliated club and then a motorsport license, both these things are easy to sort out though. Very few hillclimbs/sprints require a cage, it's generally only when the road is quite dangerous (ie like Shelly Bay in Wellington which is cliffs on one side and ocean on the other).

  8. My 05 6MT 3.0R is currently sitting on 11km/litre doing the commuter run. We're in the process of swapping the other vehicle for a 10 2.5 CVT BM, which I'm expecting to sit up around 13 or 14km/litre. As for 91, just no. They're still the same engines, just better knock correction programmed in. They're gutless pigs on 91. For the extra $2 a tank, run 95 minimum.

  10. What is going on here? From what I can gather you are willing to spend a lot of money, to try and save money? How does that even work? Buying a new car to save money is a complete fallacy, used by many a man to justify a new vehicle to his better half. Be realistic, if you are buying a new car, it's not to save money.

  12. That's a good start but not sure it's enough. I'm not going to lecture you like everybody else, I'm just going to give you a pure driver's perspective. If you put the risk of other drivers that might pull out aside, I think that 260 is too much on NZ roads. While I personally think that driving at 200km/h on French highways or 250km/h on German highways is relatively safe as long as there's nobody else on the road (but it's still illegal in France), the quality of highways in NZ is nowhere near to the quality of highways in France or Germany. At 260km/h on NZ roads, you need real skills and there's always the risk of losing control because of a road defect (and you won't be able to do anything about that no matter your skills). My point is : 260km/h on NZ roads is way too much, if you want to find your limits and learn how to drive fast, you should go to a racetrack. And you'll learn a lot more that way. Anybody can do 260km/h in a straight line, not that much people know how to go fast in corners.

  13. Yeah. Out of interest. How many people were there at the last meet? Night cruises are real nice (just around town somewhere 9-10pm) then head to a carpark. Gotta behave tho, no drinking, drags and cops etc. Although Clubsub members are pretty mature imo. Would like to do that one day, Friday night sometime.
