    I would be looking for version 4 sti 1998.. Right in the middle of the classic era.. Still has the early look but with the face lift interior and to my eye the finest of its time.. Get a Type R coupe or RA 4 door if you can find one in your price range..

    did any of the idlers seize up ..Tensioner fail..? Main reason for belts failing.. Partsourq do mitsuboshi belts that are half price of genuine..Probably the same belt at the end of the day.. Also do after market Japanese manufactured idlers for good price.. Tensioners are spendy though..

    You can remove front plate at track days for extra cooling.. In general use the masking will not cause any issues..

    This is a good car.. I would have bought it if my new garage was passed the planning/architect stages.. Rob is a GC.. Get him to do cambelt.. It may cost you a little to sort out but you will own a good piece of Subaru heritage..

    Good luck with your search for an STI. Unmodified cars can be thrashed and suffer owner neglect. Modified cars can be very loved and cared for. People make up all sorts of S*** when they are trying to sell cars..

    Max IAT 74 ...Seems very high.. Should be 10-15 above ambient unless heat soaked..
