Steering wheel repair?

I'll throw a picture up in the morning, but basically when i brought my car on the top of the steering wheel have a genorous wrapping of black electrical tape.

Is this warrantable?

Any suggestions on repairing this? Something a little tidier than the tape lol?

Or do I just redo the tape?

The reason why I'm asking is the tape started bubbling and looked even worse so I started peeling it off, now I have a sticky wheel! booo

Theres guys down here in Dunedin that can restore steering wheels and the like back to there original glory. Really good stuff so one would assume there would be this sorta service in the other citys.

Heres the photo after i've pulled the black tape off, found white tape lol!

Then once I took this off the other two, sorry it's hard to get a nice clean pic, it's a canon SLR one with and without a flash.

The wheel doesn't look too bad does it?

Um, it would be cheaper to get a good secondhand one. It looks pretty stuffed to me.

It's just this part at the top which is poked, the rest of it is OK

It's about 4cm long

How many un-munted 1st-gen steering wheels do you see around Leonidas' one is pretty good, given he's only gone 125,000 and is a '92...but the two Franks both had stuffed wheels.

How much IS it to repair a wheel anyway?

I got quoted $300 to recover mine by Retro...

It was about $50-odd for that wheel from memory. That was a convoluted mess

Yeah keep an eye out both at pick a part and at Strongs

$300 for a recover is mental. Can't you get new wheels for close to that, sans airbag and horn guff?

i want to redo mine as after 227,000kms i think its had its day now after a drive my hands are left black so do i keep the airbag or go for a smaller aftermarket one?

been told 350 to recover my one so thought 300 was cheap .
