Catless exhaust on a n/a?

I got a Fujitsubo muffler fitted to my TSR today so it's starting to sound a bit more like a subie, but being a jasma chambered muffler it's still pretty quiet so I'm thinking about getting a 2.25" or 2.5" cat back exhaust made up.

The guys at Magoo muffler suggested removing the cat converter for improved performance and economy although I'm guessing any improvements would be pretty marginal. Have also heard that removing the cat makes n/a subaru's sound rapsy - would a decent resonator solve this?

What would be the best option? Cat or no cat?

i've done 2.25 on my tsr i wouldn't go bigger than that as you loose low down torque have also removed cat has made slight change to economy but yes makes exhaust raspy but i also have a crap universal muffler on it as thats all i could afford at the time still sounds okayish though

2.5" 5Zigen system on my Impreza. I've broken my cat by filling the exhaust with water (mostly intentional) and it does get a bit of a rasp on - I wouldn't remove the thing properly for that very reason. The exhaust upgrade is enough, and it DOESN'T lose grunt except at the very low end of the rpm range.

watch out taken out the cat there are some new laws coming in regarding them. and they ant cheap to get put back in

The new regulations (from 1 May 2010) only require engine swapped / converted cars to have cat's fitted, and that's only cars that are swapped and certed after the 1 May, all cars done before that are exempt.

Have a read: http://www.lvvta.org.nz/stdExhaustGasEmissions.pdf

I was unable to find any laws that required cats for non-certed cars, but if someone else is able to, please do haha

Edit: Also if your car is a race car and has a MSNZ logbook etc you can get it certed WITHOUT a cat :)

My legacy is booked in tomorrow for a cat back exhaust so thought I'd bring this back up again. The plan is to get 2.25" from the cat back, with a bullet/coby style chambered resonator to replace the factory ones. Was quoted about $230

Is this the best way to go about making it sound better? (other than getting unequal length headers made up which would be way too expensive)

Just got the car back, sounds mint now. It sounds deeper and has a bit more of a rumble, without being too loud. It doesn't drone at low revs either.

Might post a video up for the other TS-R owners on here when I get the chance.

Hey dude would be kn to hear how the car sounds and wat you actually put on it?

cheers

Hey man, i'm happy with how it sounds aye, definitely sounds like a Subaru. I heard it from outside the car the other day when my old man dropped me off at the top of the hill with my mtn bike, believe it or not but I could've almost mistaken it for a wrx when he took off

I don't have a video that does it any justice sorry. But its 2.25" piping from the cat converter back with a decent sized resonator, thru to a Fujitsubo muffler. Its pretty quiet

I have an aftermarket 2.5in exhaust that has cats put into it (dear God I wish they hadnt put them in) and thats from the headers back, 2 cats, no res, and a very thin muffler on the end with a 3in tip. And it sounds nothing like a Subaru, it doesn't have the rumble or the throaty noise, it is more like, dare I say it, an evo sort of noise. How would I go about bring the note deeper? Could you post what you do have of yours and I will do the same of mine? Mine is a TS-R too.

Mean thats wicked ive changed my muffler and mine sounds alrite but the exhaust tip is now rooted from being scraped so looking 2 replace just the tip anyone know which tip would sound good or does the tip do nothing?

Recently had some aftermarket tuned (pretty much equal) length headers fitted. Plan was to fit wrx headers but the downwards facing thermostat on the waterpump was stopping them from going on properly

Cat converter is gone too and it isn't raspy at all

What it sounds like:

I can't decide whether to keep these headers on it or swap the waterpump and fit the unequal length wrx ones

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
