'99 B4 - Removal of headlight assembly.. .

The indicator bulb has blown on my B4 left side - tried to remove the assembly (as manual description) but found i'd need to remove the bumper first to get it fully out. It's catching on the bottom. Is this right? Does the assembly require removal first to get the bulb connector out - could i just split the assembly open in-situ (it wiggles out a little) and replace the bulb from the front? Bit of a fix-it spaz and not prepared to start removing bumpers if i can help it. Thought the connector would just come out itself from the back but no space to do so grrrr!

Ta muchly! ( :

would have thought you could just put your hand round the back and change it. obviously the bulb has never blown on my b4. might take a look myself

Yeah i thought that was the standard fix but there's just no leverage to get it out - the battery is right behind. The manual says to remove assembly but the bumper issue takes it above my level of comfort = rats.. .

to get the indicator you need to reach in from the wheel well, pull the inner guard out the way and reach in, easy as

*just thinking, that may be for the park lights :)

sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees... .. .

;D

will report back this weekend if it IS indeed that easy haha!

Haha, i was going to say, surely that'd be easier than removing the light and bumper :P

  • 2 weeks later...

took some pics guys - still no solution to this yet that i can see without removing the front bumper. it's my mid-beam halogen light in the bottom right corner of the assembly that has gone.. .

never owned a sub before so this set-up is alien to me. thought the light would pop out from the back of the assembly - but no chance. when i remove the 3 x holding bolts the assembly is free to move but something underneath catches on the bumper (picture 2) and stops it coming out. can i split open the assembly in-situ along the join line (picture 3) and remove the light from the front instead? there are some screws presumabely holding the two sections together - access to these looks to be impossible pretty much. any suggestions? is removing the bumper the only way to go? ???

Had the same problem on my 1998 BH5, the left-hand parking light was blown. Undo all the bolts and looms - helps if you have small hands or someone with small hands to help you with this part, my hands are massive so had to get the mrs to help me - you can reach in and just wriggle the whole unit out, undoing the rest of the looms as you pull it forward, it will come out eventually. Replace blown bulb and reverse procedure, voila! It gets easier with practice, if that helps ;)

you cannot take the light out without taking the bumper out, the ignitor for the HID's is under there.

my BH is in bits atm, if i can, tomorrow i will take some pictures for you, it has no bumper and the lights are in the garage, so it may give you a clear picture of how to change the lamps. but you do not have to remove the bumper or the lights to change the lamps

I have a 00 legacy b4 HID, and i have taken out the headlights both sides a couple of times without removing the bumper. I just removed the 3 mounting bolts and wiggled it out, even with headlight connectors and battery still in car. Just needs some 'gentle persuasion' ;D just my 2 cents lol!

I still vote this method, worst case you have to remove the wheel to give you wriggle room

On my '99 BH Wagon Ive taken the headlights out on various occasions and I never had to take the bumper off.

Just unscrew the three bolts and move it around until it comes out.....worked for me

Mind you my wagon didn't come stock with the HID lights so they could possibly be an issue for you.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
