TD06-20G vs TD05-20G on a V7 STI

Ok. Taking into consideration a <1k budget, what would you go for? Street, bolt on.

what is the rest of you build?

forged, injectors, intercooler type, ecu, braking set up to contain it, suspension setup to keep it on the road?

More lag? or a higher boost threshold?

i.e. is it slower to return to boost after a gearchange, or does it take more revs to make the boost in the first place?

tehehe you on the rag tonight koom?

If a few Steiny Pure's, plus doing some contract work is known as "the rag" then yeah :P

Also multi tasking and reading the internet and raging at how dumb (i.e. the first person to answer is taken as gospel) the (mostly) American forum public are is making my medulla oblonggata swell and that makes me ongry. Maybe the chick at the gym was right and I should watch my high blood pressure and stress levels. I shake my fist at that thought though.

Both of them outflow the VF30 by a large margin, so you can make a lot more power. The TD06 will spool slower, and I don't think you'd make full use out of it on the setup you've described. The TD05 would be my pick, I'd imagine it'd spool up similarly or slightly slower to the VF30.

There are lots of cheap made-in-China turbos on TradeMe at the moment. More likely to crap out on you. If you're into spending money, you could go with a well made off-the-shelf like a Trust ARMS M7760 or an American built unit from Blouch or Forced Performance. I think Blouch make a variant now which has a lighter billet compressor wheel. All of these can be found second hand via the NASIOC forums, budget around $150USD shipping via USPS (it's how I got my GReddy, but mine's a TD0518G, which I love). Another alternative is to give Steve Murch at Motorsport Engineering a call and see what he can sort out for you, may well work out cheaper.

I have only seen one td06 20g on a 2.0.

It was slow to spool and a high boost threshold :P Im not a big fan of them on a 2.0

TD05-20g 7cm is a better choice for a daily. (They do seem to be a fickle turbo, some make good power others not)

All dynos are diferent but..

Probably make about 250kw atw (if its a good one) versus a vf30 230kw

for the street the td05-20g will be good as it has less lag than a td06-20g

i had a few drives/rides in a td06-20g in 2.0litre wrx and while it had lag - only kicked in round 5k rpm it had a massive massive top end..

just depends if ur willing to live with the loss of low end ..

hmmm come to think of it..i wud also agree on the td05-20g as it is better all around option.....

;D that td06-20g has some real hard top end tho...

I think of a high boost threshold as a form of fuel saving and gives you something to look forward to, although my set-up might defy physics somewhat if I can get it right.

I haven't felt what a td05-20g is like, but have driven a mates td06-20g 2L and I wouldn't complain, it all depends how you want your power delivered over the rpm range.

IE whether you want a decent kick and top end, or want slightly less power on tap sooner.

Isnt the simple answer that a mitsi smokes subies so get one... ;)

I nearly posted a similar post last nite when mulling over the merits iof getting a TDO5 16G for mine rather than a VF 30 or 34...but I decided that the Italian red was thinking and not me...and I mean wine.

Interestingly enough Steve M was keen for me to think about reconditioning the VF 28 but I dont think i will.

The problem with the 20g wheel is it makes its best power / flow at a PR of 2.2

But for a standard sti ej20 you really want to be running a PR of 2.6 and thats right on the edges of the compressor map.

If your going to run 18-20psi they both will make about the same power, but the tdo5 will have 10x the mid range.

PR is controlled by boost pressure (pressure ratio)? Yeah was thinking around 20psi, would you agree pappu?

Guess the TD05 is what I'll be fitting then just need to find one now. I'm currently hitting 22psi dropping it to 16psi on the VF30.

VF30/34 both run out of puff around 6500RPM and power noticeably falls off, so I disagree about them being the perfect match. Upgrade your injectors, fuel pump, fit a electronic boost controller, new turbo, and ECU remap. 250kw of fast spooling torque.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
