Engine tick

hmm sure its not just ur injectors ticking?

when the coil inside the injector is energised then colapses to open the pintle inside the injector it makes a tick so basicly everytime it injects fuel it ticks...

also WRX doesnt have tappets (hydraulic lifters) ...(RS legacys do)...my old v2 wrx had a ticking sound and it turned out to be tarnish on the cam buckets (wrxs have bucket over shim) and the tarnish (sorta like burnt oil on it) makes a ticking sound...sometimes engine flush and new oil can make this go away if its bothering u but if its built up quite bad it wont go away haha...

its nothing to worry about tho its not gona blow ya engine....

either its tarnish or the bucket over shim is out of adjustment...(worn down and loose) sorta like in the old days when u have adjustable tappits and theyre out of adjustment and loose....

V1 and V2 wrx have hydraulic lifters and these will stick and cause a tapping noise.

V3 and v4 sti have buckets over shims.

As stated most ej20 engines make some sort of odd noises and every car seems to have its own noise,i call it character and you will learn to live with it.Although it can be a bit disconcerting and can lead to mild mechanical paranoia at times.

really??? the v1 and 2 have hydraulic lifters?? i thort they only came out in rs and gt legacys??

that sux haha im glad i dont have my old V2 engine anymore haha

the noise is probly the fact that the tiny ports in the hydraulic lifter are blocked with gunge and oil sludge etc...run a engine flush through it and add new oil with lifterkleen and the noise should minimize but will probly still be there but not as loud...

but like i said most people think noisy lifters are the injector pulses...injectors are pretty loud ticking

heres some info i got off another forum

Im sure the STi Version 1 ~ 2 and WRX were Hydraulic - the STi having lightweight Hydraulic lifters.

STi Version 2 RA had solid lifters ( top hat inner shims ).

STi Version 3 ~ 4 were as you said, solid lifters.

Some Version 3 ~ 4 V-Limited and Type R had either small outer shims or the regular STi Inner shims

thicker oil??? who told u that?? thicker oil makes the tick worse bro as the thick oil cant get into the hydraulic lifter or wherever it needs to go...

u use a thick oil for a worn engine with worn bigend bearings etc with huge tolerances...thin oil for tight tolerances

As its a V3 STI it will have solid lifters. So the theory is to stop solid lifters ticking, use a thicker oil to "soften the impact" from the cams on the buckets that have larger clearances cause they're old. Thinner oil will make it worse in the case of solid lifters.

Yer, thats what I've been told on here and what the old guy at Repco said as my car is on 186k

However, he sold me some Penrite SPR 10w50 stuff as I've always used Shell Helix Ultra 5w40, and now i've got buyers remorse. Anyone know if its any good?

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
