Handling upgrades

hey there,

Ive just brought a stock 98 forester turbo, and i dont want to change the shocks or springs but want to improve the handling as my lil sisters 4x4 seems to handle the corners better than it!

i just dont want to go ahead and buy stuff i dont need. the car is mostly used for town/country road driving.

um better shocks and springs = better handling lol, you could go for strut braces underbody brace, but without a good stiff shock setup i doubt it will improve much

Tyres could also be a thing to look at

Maybe try some stiffer Nolathane bushes in your control arms, sway bars etc its a cheap easy option to try first ;D before going onto shocks etc

v7 sti shocks and springs would do what you want (and bolt straight up) but you don't want to do shocks and springs... ??ai

wrx rear sway bar\bigger sway bars front and rear and solid links with nolethane bushes will stop a bit of body roll, bigger wheels\lower profile tyres will also help.

strut braces add a little, as plox said, better shocks and springs will be your best value for money IMO

Yea brace and that cost more than what some shocks would, i got some v7 shocks & springs for $200

they would be stiffer than your current setup, abit lower aswell

the reason i didnt want to go shocks is because i didnt really want to lower it. but i guess if thats the road i have to go down if its going to be best bang for buck.

but that $200 doesnt sound bad at all...

as i take it 4x4ing now and again. so lowering it isnt the best option

so stiffer suspension\sway bars etc also wouldn't be the best option, how it is now is probably the best of both worlds that you will get, a 4x4 will never go that well round corners and a track car will never go well off road... hell my car isn't even that stiff yet and i have to use AWD to get in some driveways!

I reckon your two best bets are a good set of rubber and bigger sway bars (start with the rear one and go from there).

You'll lose some body roll and gain grip without impacting ride quality or height

Trademe usually has a few, or just post in the wanted section on here and you'll prob get a response. I did and sourced all my suspension upgrades off CS members (Cheers guys goes like a dream now)

Whiteline products mate, also called red ranger in Oz.

Just google whiteline in Nz for stockists. Bout $300 for rear sway bar, and get the heavy duty mount kit while you there.

Get them off an WRX. Changed the rear one on my Forester with a WRX 18mm bar and it was transformed!

Get tyres first. Good quality brand new tyres make an unbelieveable difference. Best bang for buck. Loading up bad tyres with stiffer bars might even give you worse grip.
