Impreza 20K - what is it?

So, I've bought an Impreza 20K (2001). It's a great car, but one thing confuses me... what's the difference between the 20K and a WRX wagon? I've had a quick look at a couple of WRXes, but I don't really see much difference there. I figure they can't be exactly the same, must be some reason for the different badge.

As far as I know, with the bugeyes they tried to move away from the WRX especially with the wagons, so for them they called them 20k rather than WRX and the non turb was 20r (i think....)

No other real difference, the sedans were stilled called WRX however

From what I gather yea it's different barging but basically a Wrx spec

Not too sure why th name tho lol but perhaps k meaning king spec like the Nissan Silvia k for the turbo and q for non aka queen spec lol

Anyway not to worry tho it's got the full Wrx spec setup

Lol or at least upon comparison it looked the same

The only difference I saw was the door cards and seat trim between Wrx and 20k

Te Wrx was grey and 20k had slightly tinge of blue/purple on he gray

Thanks for the info! Yeah, it does seem to have all the WRX gear. When I bought it I thought it might be a lower performance version of the WRX, but I don't think that's right after driving it and some research.

The non-turbo version is badged 20N. I guessed:

20N = N/A

20K = Kompressor, like the Mercedes naming scheme

Probably not, but it's a theory at least...

Use the search button, plenty of info in the archives.

K (turbo) and N (normally aspirated) models were a bridge btwn basic Imprezas and hi-po WRX models.

In std form they had a little less equipment and slightly different suspension tune.

Used the search, but unfortunately '20K' is so common that searching for it returns a pile of unrelated crud, and filtering further is difficult. I think that anyone who says 'search and you would have found' should have to post the search terms to use! Then again, got the flu at the moment and home from work, my brain is just not working.

The ideas above seem right - the 20K seemed like a 'WRX Lite' when I looked at it. The spec level seems fine, but there's not many really flashy bits on it I guess. That's why I liked it, it seemed a bit more restrained than your average WRX.

Re spec levels/badging, Subaru's approach to this has always confused me. I had a BG5 Brighton, which had pretty much every option available, but I saw other Brightons of the same year with almost no extras at all, really basic. The only common feature seemed to be the 2L NA engine, but even then there was the Brighton 220... I guess that's justified by the 220 badge. I guess the badge doesn't really mean too much!

The person who buys the car new is the one who ticks the option boxes. Some people tick all, some dont.

Just have alook at any RA spec WRX. Some come with A/C, Electric windows and nice Seats. Others dont have any of this.

I looked at buying a new 200series Landcruiser just before the Japan Earthquake, and theres over 300 option boxes to tick!!

While theres plenty of info on most model/engine/trans codes for subaru, theres very little on option codes...

While I do realise that, it's more the degree of differentiation. Normally, you choose the model that you like, and then, yes, add a few options. But in the case of the Brightons, the number of options must have been huge, to the point that the 'no options ticked' model must have been like the NZ LX spec or similar. Seems odd to me. Maybe "Brighton' indicated some really basic features - 2L engine, electric windows, A/C (i.e. features that pretty much every car would have).

To add another to the mix. there is also the RX model. We have a motu edition RX2.0 non turbo subaru. Comes with different seats, suspension, wheels, number plates and probably some other stuff in there as well.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
