I've heard I can get good KW gains by upgrading the factory headers on my 89 rs leggy to tuned length extractors.....only prob is it will sound like a honda.....or so I'm told. Can I still get good power gains by upgrading to untuned or unequal length extractors and still keep the subie rumble?

I personally like the sound of equal length headers, I found they sounded more like an evo and it gives ur car more of a rally sound. ;) The unequal length headers keep somewhat the subie rumble, I currently have a set of these but it still gives it the evo sound once u start flooring it. But at idle etc it rumbles away nicely. Im about to get on the dyno and have retune so can provide figures for it.

You won't get the hugest gains kw atw figure wise with aftermarket headers but it does help free up the restrictions of the stock system in place. Unequal length won't provide you with as much torque as equal length but unless you aiming for a high performace track beast then I wouldn't worry too much over it. ;)

Depends on the debatable description of tuned, it still can be either equal length or unequal length. As technically full tuned ones will not neccesarily be equal length, as it can depend on the engine setup. Good arguments on NASOIC and alike though.

Reviving this old thread:

Looking at doing the old switcheroo on my factory headers to 'tuned length' i.e equal length

I recall Boostin had some EJ25(?) factory equal length headers on his legacy for a while. Whats involved in this swap? i.e non turbo manifold vs turbo manifold= HOW??? I'd rather try go this way as I suffer from studentism and have basically no money.

Sound isnt a problem for me as I honesty Don't care about the sound anymore, I plan on ditching the cannon ASAP as I'm sick of the noise (so are my neighbors and my dog) and I miss the stealthyness. So I'm thinking once I know the HOW it's just one trip to the wreckers and I'm set.

they just fit up to the up pipe... and id do tuned extractors again. mine sound horny as and you can definately tell theyre on there. its between a mitsi and a lancia, if anyone knows what they sound like

Yeah I dont really care either way about sound coz I'm planning on making my car QUIETER, I'm going for more of the sleeper route for my car.

I'm in it purely for whatever slight power advantage I can get out of it and from reading this it seems that there is a slight advantage for torque.

yeah, i have a 3 dump pipe and 3 inch hks system with just a straight thru muffler on the rear and its too quiet with the extractors on...

+1 , never tell them what you need it for / if you want it as they will see that and up the price... if anything act dumb and they generally feel sorry for ya ;D

for the $150 he is asking I'd look else where you could probably get some cheaper i reckon

Yeah, I didnt even realize that he wasn't in Auckland (D'oh!). Most of that I reckon would be in shipping, and I'm not in too much of a hurry anyway. My health is going down hill so I've cut down my work hours and study to focus on getting well again over modding my car etc.

      Afternoon team,
      im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket. 
      Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.
