Brakes redone

Hey CHCH ,members, where in CHCH can I take the GTB for its front brake transplant, disk skim (only to remove crap) and complete fluid swap.

How much should I expect as a ball park as I have had 2 quotes at either end of the scale :

If it was me id buy new disks ( around $80 each ) and do a fluid flush myself.

Tried Safe-R-Brakes or Undercar services for prices? I think Undercar have their own workshop?

Undercar are on Main South Rd just South of the Sockburn roundabout. Near the BP (and on same side of the rd).

Update on Quotes around CHCH:

Fit front 4 pots + supplied pads

Fit rear brake pads

Skim rotors (some also quoted worst case to replace all 4)

Replace all brake fluid with Dot4

Labour + incidentals

SafeRBrakes Ltd - $300 + GST ($345 Incl), to replace rotors $75 + GST EACH (front only)

Jamie's Tyre & Auto - $350 + GST ($402.50 Incl), includes replacing front rotors

Advance Automotive - $270 + GST ($310.50 Incl), not quoted for replacement of rotors

Stubaru - $300 + GST (345 Incl), not quoted for replacement of rotors

Leading Edge Automotive - $428 + GST ($492.20 Incl), not quoted for replacement of rotors

Any feedback, used any of the above??

Of all those you are probably getting the same parts from the same distributors anyway?

Just go with the best price (or easiest location) as its not like its a highly specialized job, its just something that you may want a professional to do to ensure the brakes are going to work properly afterwards.

Stu is a good man to deal with generally, I've heard good reports from SafeRbrakes, Tony from RDL is my mate so I always support him and Undercar sell decent stuff (some of it just generic, some high quality).

Also, I think you've mentioned living in Rangoon? Have you tried Autotech? Haven't used their services but they're friends with everyone involved at RDL and the owners daughter says hi to me so I like them as well ;D

But in all seriousness, most of those prices are about the same, the parts are going to be pretty much the same and its hard to get the job completely wrong unless they're total muppets

Les does amazing work but a bit far to travel these days. and your right I want a pro to do the work for me not some cunnyfunt.

Another random question...

The back brakes are vented disks and single pot calliper... Is this normal or strange...

It seems to have thrown every one that has looked at it to quote (took car around to them today to confirm pricing)

All my Subaru's have vented rear rotor's and single piston calipers.

Not sure if they're the same diameters or not though?

All the single pot rears are same size. My v5 had single pot venteds in the back.

Pretty standard.

Just buy the discs mate. Use your jack and tyre iron, a 12mm socket and 17mm and swap them out. Takes me 10mins a wheel off and on.

Dec 98 The first of the lot of Revision A's, I personally think they were random new & leftover bits models...

My fronts were (are untill next week) 2 pot's on vented disks and the rear are single pot sliding calliper on vented 290mm disks... ???

Have never really been too worried about the diffs in that department in later revisions vs mine, ANd as swinnie said its the same size disk as the WRX rears...
