RX 7 advice/opinions sought

Hi all..my youngest is thinking about buying a RX 7. Apart from having seen/raced a few at Intermarques I know very little about them. Keen on peoples views about joys and pitfalls of owning one...he is looking in the $15K bracket (mid 1990s). There are a couple on Trademe at the moment. And no he doesnt want a Rex or an Evo... Does anyone know someone in Welly who owns one that he could talk to?

theyre only good for about 100k then they go bang and need a full rebuild

Bullshit. If they are loomed after they can last but lookong after is the key.

Finding one that hasnt been thrashed is the hard part.

it depending on the portings, as long as u dont go too extream it will be ok. i was into my rotory in the old days. had a RX2 and a rx7

to be honest they dont last as long as you think

i would love have a RX7 tbh, will swap my type R for one

exactly if they are looked after and if your buying something from the mid 90s expect to be putting money into it because its going to go pop.

I use to have a s4 and a s6 rx7, both highly modified.if you want some advice just pm me...more than happy to check out cars your interested in!

Only advice i can give is to be careful, knowing who your buying off can be a huge bonus. Most rx7s (i know of) these days have been givin a good beat around. If its been rebuilt then make sure you follow up on who done the work, i know some garages do rough rebuilds, not naming any.

my cousin got one and he brought it for $12k ending up spending over $20k on top of that now... its worse then a wrx

make sure you son has another $10-15k in the bank after buying one

Make sure he can afford the fuel bill, if he can afford the fuel bill, then the maintenance bills will be fine.

sounds like buying most performance cars tho, u never really know whats happened unless its a 1 owner deal etc
