Threaded Wheel Stud

Swapped my wheels over today to the ones that have good tyres on them, since I'm planning on going on a roadie down south tomorrow

One of the studs is threaded on the front right. Has been like this for a while but not as bad

Can I take the car into a tyre shop and have them put a new stud in? Or does it need to go into a mechanic? If so is it a big job?

All sorted now, Tony at RDL Performance is going to swap one in for me tomorrow morning! Thats service right there

and it is only one of 5 so it would be ok to run with 4

and yup if it has ABS (or even an ABS hub ) a wee bit more difficult but still easily doable in an hour or so

how does ABS complicate things? does it get in the way?

I would call it a stripped stud (ie no thread left)

Abs will have a ring that sits on the inner bit of the hub so your unable to just knock the old one straight out as it hits

Just a matter of loosening the abs ring but yeah makes it a bit more fiddly than otherwise

lucky it isnt the rear, done that couple weeks ago, would have been a nightmare if i didnt have the mechanic mate with me

99% sure from memory that the REARS with abs, cant be done in place by loosening ABS tone wheel

I did it on my v3 wrx, unsure of other models. Was a pain though!

The handbrake cable spring decided to come off in the process adding time and effort.

I highly doubt you could install extended wheel studs with the ring dangling, but the stockers were ok. I believe I rotated the wheel in between studs because there's only one gap that's big enough.

Yeah sorry I meant to say cross threaded. I'm sure it would've been all good with 4 but I didn't want to take that risk with 4 passengers
