Dimming light on the heater unit

Hey all... is there a way on a BG5 wagon that you can stop the heater unit from dimming when you turn the lights on?

I always drive around with the spot lights on, and during the day if you want to use the heater or air con you can't see whats on the screen. You have to turn the spot lights off to see what your doing.

I drive with them on all the time, not to be cool, but hopefully all the shit useless other drivers on the road will see me.

Plus aren't fog lights generally yellow rather then white? I regard them more as driving lights anyways ;D

So anyone know how to stop the heater unit dimming?

surely there would be the same 12v 'dim' feed that is connected in the same way as the feed that dims your stereo when you turn the lights on ?? ie lights off is 0v and lights on is 12v ?? reckon ten minutes with a multimeter would solve it ...... or you could just flick your lights off briefly to read it which is what i do - that panel on full brightness at night time would be way too much of a distraction......

Yeah your right, probably would be to bright at night. Was thinking of finding the right wire then running it through a switch. It's almost impossible to read during a slightly glarey day.

Might have to bust out the multimeter!

The fog lights can power the illumination signal line independently of the main lights, hence the problem you've got. If you can find where the fog light circuit does this then you can disconnect it so only the headlights power the signal line.

Places to look:

1. The fog light push-button switch itself - they may have made it easy for you!

2. The relay that powers them - pretty sure it's under the dash.

3. Some god-awful place under the dash - lets hope it's not this.

Given that the illumination wire is a cabin-only feature you can expect 1 or 3 I'd say. If you find it let us know, I've been meaning to do this also for ages now :)

It's actually via the park light circuit :) as when you switch the FOG lights on these are powered up as well, the only way around it will be to put a switch in the circuit from the wiring behind the stereo, maybe look up one of the many online wiring digagrams OR google subaru legacy stereo wiring,

when checking for this wire it may look like an earth so when u find it make sure it changes polarity from lights of to lights on

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
