the MAF in pic 2 looks like it would be sitting in the gaurd? in pic 1, whats that black thing to the left of the mushroom? also what do you use the car for? if its just street use i cant really see any need for the setup in pic 2. if you were doing track days though, wouldnt it just be easier to take headlight out if you can? (i have no idea if you can take out or not on v8's)

personally i like the look of that HKS setup :) but im a HKS man lol love it

but why did you want to change it??

running no maf will be like a link - so yea a tune will be needed when ever you do anything - where as with maf - if its within the map its ok (to a degree)

Want to change it cause the HKS set up is fail, Sucks in to much warm engine air so really the setup is pointless id be better off having a standard box then the HKS set up. But I don't have a standard airbox and had some free time at work so i thought id pipe it down to behind the fog light cover to keep the filter out of the warm engine air and getting the nice cool outside air straight onto it.

I use the car for weekend use, track days and drags, the way ive got the suspension set up its to much to drive it everyday.

What black thing to the left of the mushroom? If your talking about the black pipe sticking out the hole, that's the air intake silencer I removed that so i had room to put the new pipe in.

The easy solution that will work

Make either a sealed box - or a box that only has one wall that seals on to the bonnet - remove the factory snorkel crap and run a flexi tube from the front into the box

Works very well and you won't have the problem of the filter getting wet and getting all dirty from road crustations

My personal preference is: Standard airbox, Zero Sports intake pipe, Ducting from airbox to guard. Sure its not as pretty as these aftermarket solutions but it is guaranteed reliable.

If you need any bits give the guys at Strong For Subaru a call and they'll be able to sort you out with what you need (Including the ZS pipe at the moment too :D )

Mmmm think I have solved it....Wiretap you are right ill put it to the test tomorrow. I took everything out, Put my old HKS intake in with mushroom filter, this ran fine like it did before I changed anything, now from there i took off the mushroom filter car still running fine with no filter, now from there I put on the K&N filter still running fine and from there I took my custom pipe taped over the MAF plate and connected it to the HKS MAF tube... this also runs fine. So it must be the custom MAF I have done. Tomorrow ill cut the MAF out of the custom pipe and join it all up using the HKS MAF and going by all of the above in should run smoothly....fingers crossed.

Only down side to reusing the HKS MAF tube means it wont look as clean and I cant sell off the HKS intake :(

Other thing is the MAF is going to be sitting about 50-60mm closer to that bend in the black standard piping, I'm hoping this will be alright.

just get a maf tube from scarles or someone like that

works fine and u can have the extended setup like before

cheap and easy fix

PS. thats exactly how my vrothers v7 has it so know it works in real life ;)

IT WORKS!!!! Using the HKS MAF tube. Looked alot cleaner with just the one silicon join but this will have to do.

MAF is a little closer then id like it to be to the standard pipe, but the car is running sweet!!!

Anyone know where I can buy those little plastic round clip things that you put in the holes to hold everything together? missing a few lol.

I can now see what your problem was. Your new MAF tube was too small! Yes, only 5mm smaller, but that really won't help. That and the turbulator/venturi baffle.

My custom MAF was actually only 2mm smaller! the HKS MAF tube is also sort of flared out on the inside of it where the air is coming in, so maybe that has something to do with it as well.

Still lost as to why the HKS filter worked and the K&N didn't on my custom MAF, really would like to know what caused that lol

smaller maf tube would make it run richer wouldnt it ?

Yep, it was running like balls though, a car running lean (up to 15.5:1) at idle will still idle mostly fine in my experience. Rich (as little as 13.5:1) will cause it to get pretty pissy :P

When my injector seals were leaking muchos extra fuel into the engine it idled fine suprisingly.

Just sounded aaaaaaaaaangry!

Random but on V5/6 most people put a 76mm pod adaptor onto the 90mm maf housing...i know mines like that but i have no other option. Causes problems i believe.

you believe wrong. apexi make a direct bolt on pod filter. thats what i use but i dont have an afm so doesnt matter

it causes a hell of a big disruption to airflow...i could be wrong on effects though like i said.

Most people do use the standard chinese plastic ones too...not smart people like you though. I never said one wasnt available. I couldnt find a seconhand apexi one and no way i was pricing new.

I cant be bothered changing it as ill be deleting afm anyway.

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
