Theres an awesome rant thread on the USMB about the 'Subaru Clock-makers Department'. Apparently they suck at their jobs and clocks rarely last longer than 5 years

Anyone else find it a bit odd that someone decides to sign up, gives no introduction and almost immediately posts stating they can can fix your clock.....but gives no details on how?

I'm here to help if you are not interested that's fine! Once I needed help and I was looking at all Subaru's forums around the world to find a solution!!!

That's not a nice welcome for new members, it's not like you have to.... :)

You need to be able to solder and have some electric knowledge, in some cases you will need to replace electric components but not always so it's really depends...

Have a look around and see how we do things, generally its a better idea to post up a 'how to' thread than this kinda thing

In all honesty it was a pretty bad first thread.

+1 for "how to" thread.

I've done plenty of soldering before and would love to know how to fix this bloody problem.

I've long since relied on my stereo for the time.

Don't know if I am aloud to do this, so if it is frowned upon let me know and I will remove the post.

Examination..

The first thing I noticed was that there was not a direct crack in the

solder.. it was more that the solder got stressed over time so this created

an extremely weak connection, since my clock worked for about 2

seconds here and there

Heres the "to the eye" picture

You may notice that the solder on #510 is pretty pathetic..

Upclose:

Hopefully it didn't turn out too dark, but you can see that it looks like

cottage cheese (sortof) whereas its all pitted

The fix:

Well you have basicly two choices here

1-) Re-solder just using the solder there, basicly using a fine tip solder

"gun" (pencil tip etc) and heating it up, thus allowing the connection to be

uniform

Or (what I did)

2-) Use step one with addition use of solder material, safest way to insure

fix will last awhile

Soldering is done.. here are the results..

This picture allows you to see the improvement to the connection

Just a little follow up

The clock works!

and when I was resoldering #510, I decided to do all the other similar

connections, seeing some other ones show'd signs of wear, better safe

than sorry..

If anyone here has a forester clock that's dead I can fix it for a 6-pack of monteiths original!

Mine came broken-After a bit of web work I found some knowhow (subaruforester.org) whipped it out and 20mns later it was glowing green and controlling the day once again.

It's the little square resistors on the back that come off pcb. Just wick off the old solder and reapply.

--sorry I replied to page 1, didn't see the how to----

Looks like the PCB manufacturer didn't do a great job in making those PCBs. Nasty dry joints on those SMD resistors.

Hard to see in the photos, but can't see if the LCD has an external backlight or not. If it does, would be a cool mod to remove it and replace with something like a UV blue backlight!

Or, you could remove the electronics and put a wind-up analog clock in there. ::) ;D

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
