GTB Primary Turbo Mod for full 16psi boost

I found this YouTube video that most of you have probably seen also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t10LQvwubDA Which shows how you can block off the number 10 hose to the wastegate solenoid and this runs your primary turbo at max boost, from 11 psi up to 16 psi. I tried it out yesterday and it seems to work well.

As far as I know, this wont hurt the engine or turbos much, I believe the turbos are rated at 18psi anyway so 16 is within limits, but is there anything else which could be negatively affected by this mod? Is it ok to leave it like that for everyday driving?

Increasing the primary boost doesn't affect VOD, but I totally agree with Joker, I think the 'vod' is a feature not a fault, it allows you to drive normally and efficiently using the smaller primary turbo, and when you want the power you let those revs go nuts and BAM the secondary turbo kicks in once its had a cup of tea and a lie down (vod) :P Its not a race car but its a fkn fast stationwagon. I love overtaking more expensive powerful cars at full noise and watching their faces as I speed past them.

I'm going to make some cool vidz for YouTube cos there isnt many good ones on there yet, I'll post up once they are done.

Yeah nah guys. That line goes off to the boost control solenoid in the passenger wheel arch, for the primary turbo... You're un-plugging one of it's vac lines... which means what?

I'm guessing it is allowing the primary to free boost.. which means blown turbo in no time, the primary's are already overworked as is.

Maybe in a BH/BE you're safer, cause i've never heard of them having turbo issues. But for the BG/BE's... i do not recommend you do this mod.

I'm loving the extra boost in my GTB with this mod!

It compensates for the 16 kw loss due to the detuned engine for low octane fuel (190kw down from 206kw), and I like to believe the engine and turbo are still happy and not overstressed because they are rated for higher power anyway.

Worst case scenario my primary turbo blows and I replace it with a newer bigger one.

There is a few ways to get 16psi on primary but unplugging something is free.

I don't know... when I change everything over/ take everything else for the track my car definetly more resembles a race car ...... hahaha

I get this and yes, I've tried it on the BG5B year ago, which blew the second primary turbo, I replaced the primary with a VF26 and did the same mod and it holds okay. VOD is still there, the mod, never changed that.. But I have to say, I brought my partner and v2 impreza single turbo and hitting 15-16psi with this plug up mod for the TT is no where near the same as 16psi in the single turbo. WAY different.

Yep will agree the GTB is a road car not rally car. I like my GTB with all it hassles and limited this and that.. I decide to change it .. personally I think if you want real power, convert it, or buy a controller to deal with it, as stock .. or just bear it., and do the mini mods until you either get sick of it or sell it.

as with any car, if you wind up the boost you could have issues...

the manufacturer set the boost for a reason...

although having said that my gtb was boosting 17psi for a quite a while before i knew found out that was a massive amount of boost for a non sti and still drives fine (even with the cel coming on all the time - damn knock sensor)

when i say "still drives fine" i suspect it was pretty shot but has since been sold so i dont care lol

my old gtt run 18 psi for 2 years and i raped it every day still went well when i sold it

      Afternoon team,
      im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket. 
      Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers. 
       
      Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.
