No heat from heater BH5

Hey all

Since having a new longblock put in after the last one cooked itself, we dont seem to be getting any heat through the heater.

I tried bleeding the cooling system this arvo but not sure how effective that was, did seem to be alot of bubbles coming up through the radiator filling point.

The A/C works fine, the blower works, the climate control display works - im kinda at a loss as to what else it could be other than a blocked heater core. This seems strange if it is that, as heater worked fine on previous engine.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I'm having the same issue!

Could be airlock, radiator/heater core blockage. Airlock is common issue on the legacys, need to bleed with the nose raised.

at a guess this is what caused last engine to over heat, and if not bypassed/replaced will cause new one to do the same.

Last engine overheated due to one of the metal coolant pipes going to heater core rusting out from the inside and dropping out all the coolant. Mrs didnt know anything about it til it was too late.

try a back flush thru the heater core BUT as the first failure was from rust in the system it does not bode well for the heater core

Is there a writeup on how to do this? Car is going in to Winger shortly to have the fuel leak fixed, so wonder if its worth getting this sorted at the same time

The heater core is known to block up with lime scale

Water isn't circulating so just don't drive it or you will cook the new motor. Give it a proper bleed but if there is rust then the heater core will be chummed up with crap.

Same issue in my BG, just had the radiator replaced etc and it's made no difference

Didnt have time to DIY it (cause said bleeding is a pain in the butt) and double checked with the workshop they had, they had some thoughts about vents not opening behind the dash. Still WIP

Do you have the digi or mechanical interface for your heater etc.

BLEED IT!!!!! all you gotta do is turn on the car with the header tank cap off and turn the heater on full heat and wait. top the water up if it goes down. once all bubbles are gone from header tank cap. your done!!

Jack the front of the car up a bit too iirc

Jack front of car up, turn heater on full heat and then top up as bubbles come out of radiator cap, do this till the thermostat opens and the radiator fans come on.
