What's the deal with the bottom- not allowed to import 'cars like these anymore'? Sounds like gas-bagging to me.

All jap cars have to meet jap standards: so they therefore meet new zealand standards as ours are almost identical.

Yeah: it's only done 20thou k's less than my gtb (single turbo) and 3 years younger. I wouldn't expect any more than 5,5 for mine I think this guy is pushing the price hard on its limit.

I thought he was right, saw somewhere anything under 2002 can't be complied on the roads not sure fully of the rules but theres a heap of these cars in the country anyway so no biggy

Yeah; those are good snappy bargains: I know a guy sold his gtb for $1700.00 not sure on the details but it was a nice bright orange BH.

Definately not going up in price shortly lol.

He's my neighbourhood, he was selling this car maybe 4 months ago or more asking $8,990... its the 250S VDC, its really nice.

The car looks to be in reasonably good condition overall.

However there were a couple of things me and my mate have questions about:

Firstly the car has a japanese computer n the dash for navigation, however this also is used for display when changing air con and fan modes etc. Can this be removed and replaced with a standard aircon control from a wreckers etc?

Secondly, when turning the steering wheel the is a grinding/clicking noise which is fairly consistent when turning either small amounts or lock to lock. Is this a serious issues or purely something catching/rubbing?

Could be a cv joint making the noise?

I know my brothers 2000 legacy had a noise behind the steering wheel, it was the clockspring being noisy, not sure if it is fixable.

Clock springs get replaced genuine only normally.

Probably deserves to be in the stupid questions thread but what actually is a clock spring and is it a big deal when looking to purchase a car? It definitely wasn't the CV joint (got out and had mate turn the wheel while i had my head almost in the guard haha, definitely coming from under the surround near the steering wheel or very near there)

The clock spring is the way that the power gets from the stationary part of the steering column to the turning part ( steering wheel) it will have a few wires in it, Airbag,horn,and any steering wheel mounted buttons.

The reason why it is called a "clock Spring" is that the wires are glued to a "spring" that looks like a clock spring ( or the one inside a tape measure) as you turn the wheel the spring will either get tighter or looser depending on which way you go.

The clock spring has only been needed since the advent of the SRS airbag.

I would not worry about the noise I dont think it will cause to much of an issue.

they can be replaced BUT are expensive from a dealer, and unless you can guarentee that the donor vehicle has not been in an accident then finding a second hand one may prove difficult,also you will have to get one from the EXACTLY the same model and trim level as yours as they are very varied.

Today I saw it in te Subaru Garage here in Qtwn (I forgot the name the place). You were doing some inspection?

yeah my friend had it taken in for an inspection...

Mechanics don't seem to think it is the clock spring making the ticking as usually that would mean either the airbag light would be on or the horn wouldn't be working???

Also inspection said there was no indication that the cam-belt had been changed yet...
