my new 1996 STI

Recommended Posts

Well last night I purchased a 1996 WRX STI... On my way to work thismorning the rev counter dropped to 0 and stayed there.

A dash light came on that said "ANITLOCK BRAKE"

and it would not rev past what felt like cause couldn't see about 2000rpm.... would this be turbo?? it just surged.

Man i think i just bought something that is going to cost me alot of money!!!

any advise?? im taking it down to Winger at Lunchtime.

i would say that the speedo drive has broken. it is common enough for these to brake the short cable that goes into the gearbox (as opposed to the longer cable that goes into the back of the speedo head)

if it is the shorter cable that has broken they are worth $77 new but i can clubsub discount one to $65

Well thank goodness i got mechanical breakdown insurance before i left last night so i think ill take it to Winger anyways to make sure nothing else is about to crap out.

Will be really really good if its just what you say and if Winger say the same thing I might come back to you about getting that part.

Thanks!

i snapped my speedo cable bottom peice and it wasnt the revs that dropped to nothing only the speedo, also a version 2. how can revs be taken from the speedo cable lol.

also the cable snapped will not affect how it runs at all apart from check light comes on after a while, i had to drive from tauranga to hamilton like that, didnt affect revs or speed whatsoever.

my 2 cents.

but if it is that then yea cost me $62 from wingers for new one.

Car died on me on the way to Winger at the lights!! fricken embaressing! :-[

Turns out Turners car auctions wern't even supposed to sell it they called me said they had it mixed up with another car and that the security on it had not been lifted yet so they could not legally sell it so they wanted it back and reversed the sale.

was probably a blessing in disguise! but a pretty big F up on their behalf! :o

I said well yeah im on the side of the road it just died you can come pick it up from here!!

Wow.... lucky, My mate just picked up a 1997 Legacy 250T-B Wagon from Turners yesterday aswell.... unfortunately he only got 2KM before = fucked

We noticed the water was a bit low when we picked it up, so drove it gently to the nearest servo... filled up the water, left the radiator cap off so we could bleed it... fired it up and had a 3 meter high fountain... then the battery decided it wanted to be flat.... so there was me and my mate pushing this wagon that he had owned for all of 10 mins with a fooked head gasket or 2 and a flat battery off the servo forecourt.... Car is now at the OTS Yard, and he will be in contact with turners pretty soon

Lemon anyone

Yea but things are a little different at those auctions, if your lucky you get to drive the car for a lap of the warehouse but thats about it. A pre-purchase inspection might have been a good option, but yea thats why you buy mechanical insurance

stuff mechanical insurance... nothing beats lying on the ground and having a nosy under and around the car for yourself.... as for the 3m fountain, that was definately avoidable.... take rad cap off. check? haha. there is also the not fit for purpose route you can take with turners....

unfortuantely the Consumer Gurantees Act does not cover auctions, which is where the 'Not fit for purpose' comes in

BUT the sale of goods act appears as though it will, under 'The Goods are not of Merchantable Quality'.

But yeh, was rather stupid of my mate to buy it without inspecting prior. If turners doesnt come to the party and take it back, his brother in law has a spare motor which he is going to give him, just needs rebuilding as he pulled it apart and got it all cleaned up with the intention of making a fairly powerful motor for his own car, but never got round to it. So probably best spending the extra $$$ rebuilding and installing another motor than trying to sell in its current condition and taking a huge loss

      Afternoon team,
im new to the group first time posting. Im hoping some body can help me get my launch control all dialled in on my link g4x. Ive had the computer and car all tuned from chris at prestige awesome knowlegable guy super happy with the results but now im wanting to get my launch/anti lag all dialled in. Ive been reading multiple different forums etc all with different conflicking information which has made me nervious with what do i listen to this or that if you get what i mean. Now ive started to make myself familiar with my PClink software etc the past few weeks and im eager to learn how to do minor setups or tweaks etc so im not relieing on my tuner so much and obviously saving myself abit hurt in the back pocket.
Now back to the question at hand.... Im wondering if theres and one who could please share there knowledge and wisdom with setting all my values, timing, fuel etc when i have launch control armed and engaged, or even a launch tune file they can possibly send me to load onto my tune. Ive figured out the setup of my digital inputs turning launch control on etc and its obvisously on its pre set factory settings. It engages but doesnt sound the greatest or as angry as it should i feel. Hence reaching out to you good buggers.

Cheers in advance for any info and help yous maybe able to give me.

      Cheers Shaun
